BALTIMORE, MD – Maryland (26-15) put together a historic night in Baltimore, taking down UMBC (19-18), 24-11. Tuesday's game was defined by a 17-run second inning from the Maryland offense, a program record for most runs scored in an inning in a single game.
Maryland's previous record for most runs in an inning was a 13-run third inning against Coppin State on March 31, 1999, a mark the Terps tied before
Luke Shliger hit a grand slam, the eighth of the season for the Terps, giving them a 20-2 lead.
Shliger and Matt Shaw each scored four runs in the win, Shaw tying a career-high set against Purdue on May 20, 2022. Shliger now has 63 runs scored this season, now 10th all-time in a single season in Maryland history and second in the nation, trailing just LSU's Dylan Crews. He now has 159 runs scored in his career, currently third all-time for the Terps.
Jacob Orr had himself an inning, recording three RBI off a two-run double and an RBI single. An RBI single in the first gave him four RBI in the first two innings and he tied a career-high with three hits. Kevin Keister hit a three-run homer in the inning, driving home another with an RBI, bases-loaded walk. Keister hit two homers in the game, a first in his college career, as well as recording a career-high five RBI. All nine starters for Maryland recorded at least one hit and scored at least two runs.
