Terp Newcomers In Action On Saturday In Capital Classic And Iverson All-American Game

Four Maryland basketball newcomers will take part in prestigious all-star events.

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Four of Maryland's incoming newcomers will be showcased this Saturday, April 29 as they take part in the 50thAnnual Hoop Culture Capital Classic as well as the Iverson All-American Game. The Capital Classic (2 PM) will take place at the Entertainment & Sports Arena in Washington, D.C., while the Iverson All-American Game (7 PM) will be held at Harwood Arena on the campus of Kean University in Union, N.J.
 
The Capital Classic is one of the most legendary high school all-star games and will feature Terp signees Jamie Kaiser (Burke, VA), Jahanthan Lamothe (Baltimore, MD), and Braden Pierce (Woodstock, GA) as part of the 2023 Capital All-Stars Roster.
 
The sixth annual Iverson All-American Game will feature DeShawn Harris-Smith (Fairfax, VA) and will feature some of the top high school players in the country. 
 
Additionally, a pair with Terps connections will be on the coaching staff of the U.S. All-Star team in the Capital Classic. Adrian Branch will lead that all-star squad with Chuck Driesell, the son of legendary Terps head coach Lefty Driesell, as one of his assistants.

Ranked as the No. 15 recruiting class in the country, the quartet has earned several major accolades during the spring. Kaiser and Harris-Smith each played in the Geico High School National Championship Tournament. The 7-foot Pierce averaged a double-double this year with IMG Academy and recently officially signed his NLI with the Terps.
 
Harris-Smith collected a number of individual honors after a standout year at Paul VI High School – Virginia Gatorade Player of the Year, Naismith High School All-American, WCAC Player of the Year, All-MET Player of the Year. 
 
Lamothe's season was highlighted by a St. Francis Academy record 57-point performance including 16 three-pointers against John Carroll. He also had 30 points and seven rebounds in leading the Panthers to the MIAA AA Conference Championship. He will also serve as the captain of the Capital All-Stars on Saturday.
