BLOOMINGTON, IN - The Maryland track and field team wrapped up their season this weekend at the Big Ten Outdoor Track and Field Championships, hosted by Indiana.
Luke Tobia got the Terps rolling in the first event of the championships, throwing a new personal best of 59.53m in the hammer throw, which also moved him up one spot to second all-time in Maryland history.
Kayla Thorpe also impressed in the javelin, breaking her own school record and finishing in sixth place at the championships, throwing a whopping 48.38m.
The men's 4x100 team of
Joseph Ewan,
Ako Hislop,
Kevin Collins, and
Brandon James won their heat and finished in 7th place overall with a blistering time of 40.73.
Michaela Bracken also secured a 7th-place finish for the Terps, running 59.82 in the 400H finals
Eric Albright also placed for the Terps, running 1:49.61 in the 800m finals, which was good for 7th place.
The 4x400 team of
Kayla Woods,
Lydia Robling,
Kami Joi Hickson, and
Michaela Bracken closed the meet strong for the Terps, placing 7th with a time of 3:41.78.
Other Highlights:
- Tolu Akinduro broke into the all-time top ten in the triple jump, with a monster jump of 12.54m, which puts her at 6th all-time
- Jayla Bynum set a new personal best in the shot put, throwing 15.91m
- Lydia Robling also set a personal best, running 55.42 in the 400m and Kyra Lyles 56.27
- Gerald Norgbe made it to finals in the triple jump with his best jump of the season 14.78m
- Ako Hislop ran a quick 100m time of 10.47 just barely missing the finals in this event
- Rhys Allen had another strong showing in the discus, throwing 51.35m
- Anna Coffin remained competitive in the championship setting in the 1500m

"We have a team that was hungry to make finals in their respective events and this momentum will carry forward into the upcoming years. Those who are moving on to NCAAs have their eyes set on final round qualification."
