Terps Add Pair of ACC Transfers to 2023 Roster

COLLEGE PARK, Md. -- Maryland women's soccer head coach Meghan Ryan Nemzer announces the addition of two ACC transfers to the 2023 Maryland roster.  Lauren Wrigley comes to College Park after two successful seasons at North Carolina, including a National Championship Runner-Up. Katie Coyle joins Maryland after two strong seasons on the Notre Dame backline.

As a Sophomore at UNC (2022)...Was a member of the 2022 National Runner-Up team…Appeared in 14 games and tallied one start…Recorded over 200 minutes…Scored one goal against Old Dominion…Took three shots on the season…Played a season high 49 minutes against Missouri 

As a Freshman at UNC (2021)...Appeared in 18 games and made 13 starts…Made 13 consecutive starts from Aug. 26 – Oct. 21…One of seven players on the team to log over 1,000 minutes (1,087)....Played a season-high 87 minutes against Virginia Tech… Was on the field for 60 or more minutes in 11 games…Collected her lone point of the season with an assist against Clemson…Took 11 shots during the year, including a season-best three versus Notre Dame…Tallied four total shots on goal.

Prior to College…Attended Kittatinny Regional High School and played for PDA…2020 New Jersey Herald Player of the Year…2019 United Soccer Coaches Youth All-America …2019 United Soccer Coaches Youth Girls All-East Region Team member…Two-time First Team All-New Jersey Herald and all-conference selection…As a sophomore, scored the game-winning goal to lift Kittatinny Regional to its first ever Hunderton-Warren-Sussex Country Tournament final…Led KRHS to its second consecutive conference championships and scored six game-winning goals in 2019… Led PDA to a 2019 ECNL National Quarterfinal appearance • Invited to the ECNL National Training Camp in 2019

Personal…The daughter of Dawn and Keith Wrigley • Has an older brother, Corey.

Head coach Meg Nemzer: Lauren is a player that will make an immediate impact in our program on and off the field. She is a tenacious and mobile midfielder that loves to have the ball at her feet. Most importantly, Lauren is a tremendous human being and someone that I have known for many years. I am looking forward to working with her for the next few years. Her experience competing for championships at the club level, and last year competing for a national championship, will be an invaluable addition to our talented 2023 team.

As a Sophomore at Notre Dame (2022)... ACC All-Academic Team…Played in all 23 games…Logged over 558 minutes on the wing in the midfield….Scored her lone goal of the season, and game-winner to boot, in the 4-0 win over Illinois….Connected on a left-footed strike near the top-left side of the box….One of Notre Dame's top subs in their run to the NCAA Elite Eight.

As a Freshman at Notre Dame (2021)...Played in 14 games, logging 462 minutes on the pitch as a primary sub as a wing midfielder…Started in her first career match against Syracuse on Sept. 18…Owned two goals and one assist before a foot injury against Clemson sidelined her for the rest of the season….Notched three points (one goal and one assist) in the 4-0 victory over Syracuse…Recorded her first career game-winner, scoring in the second half of a 2-1 victory at NC State.

Before Maryland: Played Club for PDA…Made the quarterfinals at the 2019 ECNL Nationals…Captain at Middletown South…2020 All-State Team, All-Shore Conference Team and First Team All-Division selections…2019 North 2-Group 3 Sectional Champion and North 2-Group 3 Division Champions…National Honors Student…Daughter to Joe and Karen Coyle…Has one brother, Patrick…Mom player soccer at the University of Mary Washington…Undecided on a major

I have had the privilege to work with Katie and I love how she competes and strives to get better every single day. She is a very good defender with the ability to get forward and contribute in the final third. Katie's experience in the ACC will be extremely useful to our backline as we strive to compete for a Big Ten Championship"
