COLLEGE PARK, MD. - The University of Maryland softball team is set to travel to Illinois for their final Big Ten series of the regular season. The Terps will begin the series against the Fighting Illini on Friday night on the Big Ten Network at 5:30 EST. The series continues on Saturday with a 2 EST first pitch, followed by a series finale on Sunday at 1 EST. Saturday and Sunday's game will both be streamed on B1G+.

Illinois has opened up the 2023 season with an 28-23 overall record and 6-11 in Big Ten play.
The Fighting Illini enter the weekend after dropping a weekend series to Penn State.
Maryland and Illinois last met in the 2021 season in which the Terps and Fighting Illini split a doubleheader.

early season success

The Terps are off to their best start in program history an overall record of 33-16
Maryland has 28 home runs on the season so far, already surpassing their homerun total from the 2022 season of 17. Amelia Lech has been powering the offense with 14 of those home runs.
Freshman pitcher Keira Bucher currently leads the nation in saves with 11 on the season. She is one save away from breaking the Big Ten all-time record.

looking back to last weekend

The Terps are coming off of a 1-1 Saturday doubleheader split against Wisconsin. The Badgers took the first game 1-0, before Maryland responded with a 3-2 game two victory.
Sunday's series finale against Wisconsin was canceled due to inclement weather.
After the conclusion of Saturday's doubleheader, the team honored the five seniors Mackense Greico, Campbell Kline, Taylor Liguori, Trinity Schlotterbeck and Courtney Wyche.

Maryland welcomes seven newcomers to the 2023 squad.
Sammi Woods and Madison Runyan look to make an immediate impact for the Terps in the middle infield positions. Gracelyn Solarz and Sydney Lewis will also look to contribute to the team's success in the infield.
Nicole Bodeux, Keria Bucher, Genevieve Ebaugh all come to Maryland after strong prep career's on the mound. The trio of new Terps will be mixed in with an experienced pitching rotation led by Courtney Wyche and Trinity Schlotterbeck.
