COLLEGE PARK, Md. - Maryland's twenty-plus Pro Terps continued to impress during the Premier Lacrosse League's second weekend of the season, which took place in Charlotte.
Over the weekend, the Archers, Redwoods, Atlas and Chaos all came away with wins, with three of the games being decided by just one goal.
Several Terps turned in standout performances, led by a big day for Matt Rambo with the Whipsnakes and another clutch offensive game from Connor Kelly with the Waterdogs.
This weekend, the teams head to Columbus, OH. Two games will take place Friday evening while the final two will occur on Saturday afternoon. The games can be caught on ESPN+ with the Archers/Chaos matchup, dubbed as the game of week, also airing on ESPN on Saturday at noon.
Below is a full breakdown of all the Pro Terps' performances from the past weekend.
Atlas
Brett Makar, the third overall pick in the 2023 draft, followed up his impressive professional debut with another solid performance defensively in the Atlas' first-ever win over the Whipsnakes. Makar was a force defensively throughout and finished with the second-most groundballs on the team (five).
Cannons
In a close loss for the Cannons, NLL Rookie of the Year Jonathan Donville notched a goal and an assist while also scooping one groundball for the second consecutive game. At SSDM, Fairman was impactful all game, finishing with four groundballs and a caused turnover.
Chrome
2022 Tewaaraton Award Winner Logan Wisnauskas continues to shine professionally, turning in a second consecutive one-goal, one-assist performance. He also scooped a pair of groundballs. Defensively, Alex Smith made a mark at SSDM, causing a turnover and scooping one groundball. Additionally, both team captain and current Maryland assistant coach Jesse Bernhardt and LSM Nick Grill picked up two groundballs while midfielder Colin Heacock added one himself.
redwoods
As the Redwoods moved to 2-0 on the season, SSDM and two-time all-star Isaiah Davis-Allen was everywhere defensively all game and finished with three groundballs. 2022 graduate Anthony DeMaio scooped a groundball and took six shots at midfield.
Waterdogs
Connor Kelly followed up his game-winner in the Waterdogs' opening game with another solid performance, finishing with one goal, an assist, a caused turnover and a groundball. He once again continued his knack for clutch scoring, putting in a goal with about two minutes left in the third quarter to give the Waterdogs a 7-6 lead at the time. Jake Higgins also made a mark at SSDM, playing solid defense all afternoon and scooping one groundball.
Whipsnakes
Matt Rambo was one of the stars of the entire PLL weekend thanks to a big five-point performance for the Whipsnakes (4G, 1A). Rambo accomplished his big offensive night extremely efficiently, canning four of his five shots for an 80% shooting percentage. He also added two groundballs and a caused turnover. Mike Chanenchuk was also impressive at midfield for the second consecutive week, tallying two assists.
Kyle Bernlohr was once again phenomenal in goal, making 17 saves on 12 shots for a 60.7 save percentage, including several highlight-reel stops. Bernlohr is tied for second most saves in the league (32) through two games. He also scooped four groundballs, the second-most on the team.
Defensively, several of the 11 Terps on the Whipsnakes roster stood out. LSM Michael Ehrhardt and close defenseman Tim Muller caused a turnover and notched two groundballs. Matt Dunn had a caused turnover and a groundball in the game while Roman Puglise added a groundball.
