Maryland Women's Soccer alumni Keri Sarver and Yewande Balogun are set to begin play at this year's FIFA Women's World Cup.
Sarver is an assistant coach for the New Zealand national team, who begin play Thursday, July 20th against Norway at 3:00 a.m. ET. Balogun is representing the Nigerian national team, who also begin play Thursday, July 20th as they take on Canada at 10:30 p.m. ET.
While at Maryland, Sarver was a two-time All-Atlantic Coast Conference Selection and was named an All-American in 1998. Sarver helped lead the Terrapins to four NCAA Tournament appearances from 1995-1998, including quarter final appearances in 1995 and 1996. Sarver holds the Maryland career records for goals (61), assists (33), points (155). Sarver also holds the single season records assists (15, 1996) and points (49, 1998), while also being tied for the single season record in goals (21, 1998). Sarver has scored the most goals in program history in the NCAA Tournament with six in her career, and also scored the most in a single game with three against Fairfield in 1998.
Balogun also had an illustrious career while at Maryland. Balogun helped lead the Terrapins to three-straight NCAA Tournament appearances, including a Sweet Sixteen berth in 2011. Balogun still holds the record for the lowest goals against average in a career at 0.93. Balogun also ranks in the top ten all-time in goalie games played (67, third), goalie games started (64, third), goalie minutes played (6,063, third), shutouts (19, second), and saves (242, sixth). In her first year with the Terps in 2007, Balogun earned Freshman All-American and All-Atlantic Coast Conference Freshman honors.
