Question: When did you start playing basketball and what was your inspiration for starting?
DHS: I started playing basketball in third grade. My mom was my inspiration, she played in high school and college.
Q: What is your favorite or most memorable moment from your high school career?
DHS: Probably the game where I reached 1,000 points for my career. It was a lot of fun and it is a milestone that a lot of people want to be able to reach, so being able to achieve that in high school was like a dream come true.
Q: What high school did you go to? Were you on a dominant team?
DHS: I went to Paul VI Catholic. We were 31-3, top five in the country.
Â
Q: If you were to organize a team bonding activity or event, what would it be and why?
DHS: Probably continue playing video games. We play a lot of NBA 2K and Fortnite. We already play a lot now.
Q: What type of music do you listen to before the game? Could you give us a song suggestion?
DHS: I listen to rap like NBA Youngboy, Durk, Lil Baby, Rylo, NoCap. If I could give a suggestion, I'd say anything from Rylo's new album "Been One".
Q: How have you been preparing for the transition from high school basketball to college basketball? Are there any specific aspects of your game that you have been focusing on improving?
DHS: Definitely my shooting;Â the three-point line goes farther back, shots are harder, better defenders, and less shot attempts. You have to make every shot count. Next, I'd say just working out every day, being around the guys that have more experience like Jahmir. He's a fifth-year senior so he's been through the fire. I want to learn as much as I can from him because I know he's gonna lead me in the right direction.
Â
Q: Are there any unusual or unique skills or talents you have off the basketball court that people might not know about?
DHS: I can draw. I have been drawing for a while.
Q: Have you, or would, you ever draw any of your own tattoos?
DHS: Yeah I drew this one (points to inside of left bicep).
Q: Outside of basketball, what are your hobbies and interests?
DHS: I love being with my friends, whether we're on the game or just hanging out. No matter what I'm doing, as long as I'm with my friends, we are laughing and joking.
Â
Q: Did a lot of your friends also stay in the area for college?
DHS: Yeah, I wanted to stay close to home for them and my family.
Q: What made you choose Maryland?
DHS: I wanted my family and friends to be able to come to the games. I think I have an opportunity to play pretty early. A lot of freshmen don't get the opportunity. I feel like coming here, I have the chance to make an impact my freshmen year. I really like Coach Willard, he reminds me a lot of my high school coach and how he cares about his players. Going back to being home, I feel like everyone from the DMV wants to support me and I want to go up with the people that have always supported me. I wouldn't want to go somewhere else and have the fans support me. I want to have the same people behind me that have been supporting me my whole career.
