No. 23 Maryland Wins Big Ten Opener Over Rutgers

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 23 Maryland Gymnastics advanced to 2-0 after posting a 196.450 score on Friday at XFINITY Center. Maryland took down Rutgers, who scored 195.550 and claimed its first conference victory of the season.

Maryland (2-0, 1-0 B1G) opened the meet on vault where it had strong performances all around as three gymnasts scored higher than 9.800 to reach a team score of 49.000. Freshman Natalie Martin led all Terps for the second straight meet posting a 9.850 score, matching her score in the season opener against West Chester.

Junior Rhea LeBlanc's 9.850 score during the Terps' second rotation on bars led all Maryland competitors. Emma Silberman trailed with a strong 9.825 score.

Maryland returned to form on beam, scoring 49.150 as a team. Junior Josephine Kogler tallied 9.875 and Martin added 9.850. Junior Victoria Gatzendorfer and sophomore Madeline Komoroski each scored 9.825.

The Terps final rotation concluded on floor with outstanding performances down the stretch by senior Alexa Rothenbuescher (9.925), Komoroski (9.900) and Martin (9.850). Rothenbuescher's score tied a career high.

Rutgers (3-4, 0-1 B1G) dropped its first conference matchup of the season despite a solid outing.
