COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2023-2024 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week is Maryland men's basketball guard Jahmir Young. Young helped lead Maryland to a pair of wins over Iowa and Nebraska, as he averaged 17.0 points and 8.0 rebounds in the two victories.
In the 69-67 win on the road against Iowa, Young finished with a game-high 22 points while adding seven rebounds and four assists. Young scored 17 points in the second half, including eight in the final 90 seconds to secure the win for the Terps. Young hit a pair of triples in the final 1:30 to help tie the game before scoring the game-winning basket on a lay-up with 1.5 seconds remaining. It was the 12th 20-plus point game for Young on the season and the 52nd of his career. The win was the Terps' first road win against the Hawkeyes since a 66-65 victory on Feb. 19, 2019. In the win over Nebraska, Young filled up the statsheet with 12 points, nine rebounds, six assists, and two steals. The 73-51 win for the Terps over the Cornhuskers was the largest margin of victory for the team in a Big Ten game since 2016.
The Terps are back on the hardwood on Feb. 3 as they travel to East Lansing to battle Michigan State. The game will tip at 5:30 and will be televised on FOX and air on the Maryland Sports Radio Network.
