COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 8 Maryland returns to College Park this weekend for two top-10 showdowns.  The Terps will take on No. 3 Ohio State on Friday at 5 p.m., followed by a matchup against No. 7 Michigan on Sunday at 12 p.m.

Parking:
Fans planning to attend the Ohio State vs. Maryland game Friday can pay to park in lot XV1 which is right across the street from the field hockey complex or pay to park on the top level of Regents Drive Garage.  Additionally, after 4:00 p.m. fans can park for free in lot 11B and 9B.  Please be aware of new traffic patterns around campus.

matchup Preview
  • No. 8 Maryland is coming off a successful 2-0 weekend, with victories over Michigan State on the road and then defeating American on Monday in College Park. The Terps have now won six of their last seven games. 
  • The Terps' offense has been powered by seniors Hope Rose and team captain Kylee Niswonger. Niswonger has netted four goals in twelve games, including her first career hat trick against Lock Haven. Rose leads the team with 13 points and six goals this season.  
  • Preseason Big Ten Player to Watch, Josie Hollamon, has been a key figure in Maryland's defense while also contributing offensively with four goals this season. 
  • In goal, sophomore Alyssa Klebasko has been dominant for the Terps, ranking third in the Big Ten and sixth in the country in goals-against-average (0.77). She also ranks third in the conference with four shutouts this season.  
  • No. 3 Ohio State will head to College Park this weekend after starting the season 11-1. The Buckeyes are coming off a 3-0 win over Kent State this past weekend in which they did not allow a single penalty corner. Ohio State has out-cornered opponents 90-46 so far this year.
  • Offensively, the Buckeyes are bolstered by the return of graduate forward Makenna Webster, who led the team in goals (17) and assists (12) last season. The midfield is anchored by the experienced duo of Cameryn Forgash and sophomore Anne Marie Krebs. This year, Webster leads Ohio State with 33 points and 12 goals. The Ohio State offense boasts five players with double-digit points, including Webster (33), Katie Fichtner (12), Brenna Bough (12), and Lindsey Roberts (10).
  • The Buckeyes also bring back senior goalkeeper Abby Danson, who recorded 66 saves in 2023, placing her 10th all-time in Ohio State history with 221 career saves. This season, Ohio State ranks second in the conference in both goals and assists per game. On the defensive side, Danson ranks second in the conference in save percentage and goals-against average.
  • Six of Ohio State's 11 wins this season have been shutouts. The Buckeyes are just three wins away from matching their 2023 season total.
  • No. 7 Michigan is one of only two teams still undefeated in Big Ten Conference play. Michigan holds a 3-0 mark in conference play with wins over Michigan State (3-0 on Sept. 23), Ohio State (1-0 on Oct. 6), and Rutgers (4-0 on Oct. 11). The Wolverines are riding a 10-game win streak after losing their season opener 4-1 to No. 2 North Carolina, the two-time defending NCAA champions, on Aug. 30. This win streak is their longest since starting the 2021 season with 11 straight wins. 
  • Michigan has dominated its opponents, outscoring them 48-10 this season, including a 32-2 margin over the last seven games. The team has already surpassed its 2023 goal total (38).
  • Twelve Wolverines have scored at least one goal this season, with four players netting five or more. Redshirt junior Abby Tamer leads the team with career highs in goals (10), assists (nine), and points (29). Graduate student Kate McLaughlin, despite missing most of the last five games due to injury, also has a career-best nine goals.
  • Michigan leads the nation with a 4.36 goals-per-game average and ranks second in scoring margin at 3.45. Tamer ranks 13th nationally with 0.91 goals per game and fourth with 0.82 assists per game. Four Wolverines rank among the top 50 nationally in scoring average. Defensively, Michigan has allowed only two goals from 37 penalty corners.
  • Tamer was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, Oct. 14, after recording two goals and four assists in Michigan's wins over Rutgers and Ball State. She played a key role in Michigan's second-half surge against Rutgers with an unassisted third-quarter goal and contributed a goal and two assists against Ball State. 
  • Michigan has posted shutouts in six of its last seven games, including all three Big Ten matchups. Nationally, the Wolverines rank sixth in goals-against average (0.91) and fourth in shutouts per game (0.55). 
  • Maryland is 20-0 all-time against Ohio State. The Terps defeated the Buckeyes 2-1 last season on the road.
  • Maryland is 22-5 all-time against Michigan.  The Terps defeated Michigan 1-0 last season on the road.

  • On Friday, Maryland field hockey toppled Michigan State 3-1, at Ralph Young Field in East Lansing.  The win was the 650th career win for Head Coach Missy Meharg, allowing her to become just the third NCAA field hockey coach to reach that milestone.  
  • The Terps trailed 1-0 at halftime but exploded offensively in the second half.  Two goals by Ella Gaitan within less than two minutes in the third period put the Terps ahead 2-1.
  • Ball State transfer Fleur Knopert extended Maryland's lead in the fourth with her second goal as a Terp. All three of Maryland's goals came within five minutes of one another.  
  • Maryland's defense, led by Ericka Morris-AdamsJosie Hollamon and Rayne Wright, posted a second-half shutout. Over its last four games, its defense has given up just two goals. The Terps held advantages in shots (16-3), shots on goal (10-1) and corners (9-2).
  • On Monday, Maryland continued its hot streak with its 4-1 win over American at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex. The Terps have now won six of their last seven games. 
  • Ball State transfer Fleur Knopert tapped the ball in off an assist from Josie Hollamon. Knopert now has four goals in 2024. 
  • Hollamon then reached the scoring column by extending Maryland's lead on another penalty corner with 5:46 to play in the third period. The goal was assisted by Emma DeBerdine and Ericka Morris-Adams.
  • Maci Bradford added to the scoring column after scoring a third Maryland goal off a penalty corner five minutes into the fourth period. Hollamon assisted the goal for her second of the night, marking her first career game with multiple assists. 
  • Hope Rose added a score for good measure late in the fourth for her team-leading sixth of the season.

  • This season, the Terps have showcased a diverse offensive arsenal, with 12 different players finding the back of the net.
  • Maryland is tied with No. 3 Ohio State and No. 7 Michigan for the most unique goal scorers in the conference.

  • Leading the charge this season is a mix of veteran players and newcomers.

  • Freshman Ellie Goldstein, Annemijn Klijnhout, and Ella Gaitan have also added youthful energy to an already potent attack. All three freshmen have recorded one goal each. Klijnhout recorded her first career goal against No. 10 Iowa.

  • Sophomore Alyssa Klebasko is continuing her dominance in the cage coming off of a stellar freshman year.
  • The 2023 Big Ten All-Second Team goalie is currently ranking third in the Big Ten and sixth in the country in goals-against-average (0.77). She also ranks third in the conference in save percentage this season.  
  • Through twelve games, Klebasko has 30 saves and four shutouts.

  • This year, Maryland will be celebrating 50 years of the historic field hockey program. 
  • Under Hall of Fame coaches Sue Tyler and Missy Meharg, the Terps have epitomized the word dominance in field hockey.
