Terps Make History
  • Maryland has won 12 straight home non-conference games and 18 consecutive against un-ranked non-conference foes. The last time Maryland lost to an un-ranked non-conference opponent was Dec. 1, 2021 against Virginia Tech in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge.
  • Maryland is 315-75 (.809) all-time at the XFINITY Center including 30-7 (.811) under Kevin Willard. Under Willard, the Terps have five home top 25 victories highlighted by the 2022-23 win over No. 3 Purdue.
  • For the first time in program history, Maryland has started a season with three consecutive 30-point wins. The closest the Terps came prior was in 1972-73 (127-82 vs. Brown, 82-50 at Richmond, and 107-80 at Canisius) and 1975-76 (127-84 vs. East Carolina, 99-42 vs. DePauw, 98-71 at Richmond).
  • Dating back to 1996-97, only four Big Ten teams have produced three-or-more 30-point wins to start a season: 1997-98 Iowa (4), 2022-23 Illinois (3), 2012-13 Michigan (3), 2004-05 Michigan State (3).
  • After Derik Queen scored 22 points against Manhattan and Rodney Rice had 28 against Mount St. Mary's, Julian Reese's 21 points against Florida A&M made it just the third time since 1999-00 that three different players have had 20-point games in the first three games of the season. In 2001-02, Maryland saw Juan Dixon, Lonny Baxter and Steve Blake all have 20-point games to open the year, while in 1990-00, Dixon, Terence Morris, and Drew Nicholas did so. In each of those seasons, Dixon had 20 points in each of the first three games.
MBB vs. Penn State 2023-24 Red Out
Maryland has won 12 straight against non-conference opponents.
No Rust On The Hot Rod
  • After not playing in a collegiate basketball game for 600 days prior to the Manhattan game, Rodney Rice has certainly shaken off any rust to start the season.
  • The sophomore guard had a breakout game against Mount St. Mary's with 28 total points on 10-of-14 shooting. He had 26 points in the first half alone making him the first Big Ten player since Luke Garza had 27 first half points at Michigan on Dec. 6, 2019. The last Terp to have 26-or-more points in any half was Jahmir Young last season at Northwestern (1/17/24) when he posted 28 in the second.
  • In eight games played as a freshman at Virginia Tech, Rice had three double-figure scoring games with a previous career-high of 17 points against NC State in the ACC Tournament.
Rodney Rice Bio Action Shot
Rodney Rice became the first Big Ten player since Luke Garza in 2019-20 to score 26-or-more points in the first half of a game with his performance against Mount St. Mary's.
Juju Beast
  • Julian Reese entered the 2024-25 campaign as one of the top post players in the Big Ten and nationally. Last season, he earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors as a junior after being named to the Preseason All-Big Ten Team and to the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Award Watch List.
  • Reese posted 15 double doubles last season which were the ninth most nationally and stood second in the Big Ten during the regular season.
  • Reese has 22 total double-doubles entering 2024-25.
  • Dating back to 2010-11, Reese has the fourth-most double doubles for any Terp.

DeShawn Looking To Build OFf Freshman Year
  • DeShawn Harris-Smith played in every game for Maryland last year as a true freshman with 30 starts. He was the program's top rookie scorer since the trio of Jalen Smith (11.7 ppg), Eric Ayala (8.6), and Aaron Wiggins (8.3) in 2018-19.
  • Against Iowa, Harris-Smith became the second Maryland freshman in the last 15 years to record 15+ points and 5+ rebounds off the bench while shooting 70.0 percent or better from the field (Diamond Stone vs. Marshall in 2015-16).
  • Harris-Smith played at least 20 minutes in all 33 games, tied for the second-longest streak by a Division I freshman this season (Drake's Kevin Overton – 33).
