Sophomore earns honor after qualifying for NCAA Cross Country Championship with school-record performance.
COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Each week during the 2024-25 season a Maryland student-athlete, who has shown excellence on and off the playing field, will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week is sophomore Rose Coats of the women's cross country team.
Coats qualified for the NCAA Championship after placing eighth at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet on Saturday. She broke her previous school-record mark for a 6K course by crossing the finish line in 19 minutes, 53.8 seconds. That shaved just over six seconds off her previous school-record time. With the eight-place finish, the second-best individual finish in program history, Coats earned NCAA All-Region honors. She is just the sixth harrier all-time to qualify for the NCAA Championship including the first since Emily Bracher in 2018.
