Terps Back In Action This Friday Morning At Paul Short Invitational

MARYLAND AT PAUL SHORT INVITATIONAL
COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Coming off a three-week break, the Maryland women's cross country team returns to action this Friday morning as the Terps head to the Paul Short Invitational hosted by Lehigh. - Junior Rose Coats led the Terps, setting a then program record in the cross country 6K by nearly eight seconds. Coats crossed the line first for the Terps in fourth place out of 335 runners with her third sub-20 minute 6K race during her Maryland career. She completed the course with a time of 19:45.4, knocking over 30 seconds off from her time at the 2024 Paul Short run of 20:24.2 where she came in 14th. Her previous personal record was 19:53.8 which she accomplished at last year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.
- Katie Dutko placed 63rd (21:57.7) followed by Eva Rogers (21:04.4) who finished 74th. The top five was rounded out by Lucy Scothern who set a new XC 6K personal record (210th, 22:01.6) and Leonora Lynn (220th, 22:07.6).
- Earlier in the morning, Rebecca Burgee placed 43rd among 442 runners in the Women's Open 6K with a time of 22:21.3 – her best performance in a 6K race this season, improving her time from the Spiked Shoe Invitational by about 25 seconds. She was followed by Cayden Justice (62, 22:36.0) and AnnaMarie Tretola (125, 23:12.8).
Last Time Out: Spiked Shoe Invitational
- Four Terps placed in the top-30 individually as the Maryland cross country team placed fifth overall at the Penn State Spike Shoe Invitational three weeks ago. Eva Rogers crossed the finish line in 18th place, while Katie Dutko finished 26th on the 6K PSU Cross Country Course.
- Rogers led the Terps individually with a time of 21 minutes, 25.7 seconds, while Dutko was just behind at 21 minutes, 48.0 seconds. Rogers' time was her career-best on the Penn State course dropping by three seconds compared to her sophomore campaign.
- Rose Coats placed 28th (21:50.1) followed by freshman Kate Konyar (29th, 21:53.8). Maren Iski rounded out Maryland's top five scorers with a time of 22 minutes, 1.4 seconds to place 34th in the field of 120 runners.
Terps Win Season Opener At Delaware Invitational
- Headlined by a 1-2-3 finish from Rose Coats, Eva Rogers, and Katie Dutko, the Maryland women's cross country team opened the 2026 season with a team win at the University of Delaware Invitational. The 5K meet was held at the White Clay Creek State Park.
- In addition to sweeping the top three spots, Maryland had five runners in the top 10 individually.
- Coats won the race with a time of 17 minutes, 31 seconds. She was followed by Eva Rogers (18:09.5) and Katie Dutko (18:34.7). Kate Konyar made her collegiate debut finishing seventh overall (18:55.3), while Maren Iski took ninth (19:06.9).
- The Terps finished with 22 points, while host Delaware was second with 35 points to lead the team standings which featured 10 schools and one running club.
Looking Ahead - Virginia's Panorama Farms Invitational
- The Terps will head to the Panorama Farms Invitational hosted by Virginia on Friday, October 16. The meet is set for a 9:30 AM start.
- This will be the first time Maryland has raced at Virginia since the 2023 season.
- Both Anna Coffin and Katie Altieri recorded top-100 finishes in the nationally competitive Women's Blue 6K, placing 84th and 89th respectively. Both runners turned in times under 22 minutes on the challenging course in tough weather conditions.
