COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The No. 8-ranked Maryland women's basketball team (11-0, 1-0 B1G) will host No. 19 Michigan State (11-1, 1-0) Sunday, Dec. 29 in a 1 p.m. game at the XFINITY Center. For tickets, click here. Parking is free in lots 9B, 4B, 11B and the Terrapin Trail Garage. The Terrapins will sign autographs on the XFINITY Center concourse after the game. 2024-25 STORYLINES
What's UP
- Maryland is coming off a dominant 107-57 win on Dec. 19 in College Park. Kaylene Smikle led the Terps with 21 points. Bri McDaniel scored 18 and Allie Kubek, Christina Dalce, Shyanne Sellers and Sarah Te-Biasu also scored in double figures. Kubek and Dalce notched double-doubles and Saylor Poffenbarger grabbed 15 rebounds.
- Maryland is 10-0 for the first time since it went 12-0 to start the 2018-19 season. The Terps' best start in school history was when they started 18-0 in 2006-07. The Terps are one of eight teams in the country that have not lost.
- Kaylene Smikle was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week Honor Roll Monday. She led the Terps with 21 points vs. William & Mary (Dec. 19) and reached the 1,000-career points mark in the game.
- Maryland women's basketball is in its 54th season and owns a record of 1,136-463 (.710). The Terrapins are No. 11 all-time in NCAA Division I history in winning percentage and No. 9 in all-time victories.
- Maryland was picked to finish fourth in the 18-team Big Ten Conference by both the league's head coaches and media panel. The Terrapins were behind just USC, UCLA and Ohio State and Indiana was picked to finish fifth.
- The Terrapins are ranked No. 8 in the Associated Press poll released Dec. 23 and No. 8 in the USA Today Coaches poll released Dec. 24.
- Two-time National Coach of the Year Brenda Frese brings in 10 new players, including seven transfers, to the squad this season. The Terrapins welcome Big East Co-Defensive Player of the Year Christina Dalce, Atlantic 10 Player of the Year Sarah Te-Biasu, All-Big Ten First Team honoree Kaylene Smikle, All-SEC Freshman Team honoree Saylor Poffenbarger, as well as Mir McLean, Amari DeBerry and Isimenme Ozzy-Momodu.
- Maryland also welcomes three freshmen in Ava McKennie, Kyndal Walker and Breanna Williams. All three won championships in high school.
- The Terrapins return All-Big Ten honorees Shyanne Sellers and Bri McDaniel, as well as Emily Fisher, Emma Chardon and Allie Kubek for the 2024-25 season.
- Sellers was named to the 10-player All-Big Ten Preseason Team for the second straight season. Sellers earned All-Big Ten First Team honors last year after averaging 15.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game.
- Sellers was named to the Ann Meyers Drysdale Award Watch List for the nation's top shooting guard. Poffenbarger was named to the Cheryl Miller Award Watch List for the nation's top small forward.
