Matt Swope at the helm. The Terps are coming off a opening series win at Georgia Southern. The Terps took the first game in a comeback effort, trailing 4-1 after six innings. The Terps would score four unanswered runs, including the game-winning run in the ninth inning to get the first win for
Matt Swope in his head coaching debut. The Terps would take game two of the series, thanks to a whole team effort as well as home runs from
Chris Hacopian and
Alex Calarco in a 7-1 win.
This will be the 16th all-time meeting between the Terrapins and the Mountaineers, and the first since 2014. The Terrapins hold a 12-3 record all time against Mount St. Mary's, but have dropped the last two in the series.
Mount St. Mary's (1-2) took one out of three during the weekend at Norfolk State. After dropping game one the Mountaineers stormed back with a 14-4 effort in game two, thanks to a four-RBI game by left fielder Aiden Tierney. Game three was a back and forth affair, with neither team able to create distance from the other. Norfolk State would come out on top with a walk-off RBI single in the 12th inning with a 7-6 win.
The game will be streamed on B1G+ and will air on the Maryland Baseball Network.
Maryland baseball: A Hacopian Family Tradition

Three Hacopians have doned the Maryland uniform. Currently brothers Eddie and Chris feature for the Terps in 2024. The one to get it all started was the patriarch of the family, Derek. Derek Hacopian was the ACC Player of the Year in 1992 for the Terrapins
Derek Hacopian held the single-season record for home runs for a Terp with 22, which he set in 1992. That record stood for 30 years, before Chris "Bubba" Alleyne in 2022. Hacopian hit for the triple crown in 1992, also finishing that year with 83 RBI (2nd most all-time in program history) and a .492 batting average (3rd all-time).
Eddie Hacopian made his debut for the Terps during the 2023 season. He finished his first year in College Park with a .328 batting average, eight home runs and 49 RBI. Hacopian finished opening weekend of 2024 with a .400 average, with an RBI and a pair of doubles.
Chris Hacopian rounds out the list, as the freshman made his debut in the season-opener for the Terps on Friday. Hacopian would slug his first home run of his career in the 7-1 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday, celebrating the accomplishment on the field with his older brother Eddie.
Eddie and
Chris Hacopian have continued the tradition of Hacopians playing at Maryland. Their father Derek played for the Terps in the early 90s, and was ACC Player of the Year and hit for the triple crown in 1992.
Transfers Make Their Mark
Alex Calarco was one of a few transfers to make their debut for the Terrapins over the weekend. Calarco launched a mammoth home run in the ninth inning for the Terps 7-1 win over georgia Southern on Saturday.
Ready Orr Not

Junior Jacob Orr led the Terps on opening weekend, finishing with a .400 average with a home run and an four RBI. Orr had hits in all three games of the series and had RBIs in each game.
On Opening Day, Orr hit a two-run homer to help start the comeback for the Terps. This marked the second consecutive opening day game where Orr hit a home run, with the junior hitting a home run in the season opener last year against USF.
These home run in consecutive years on opening day makes Orr the first Terrapin to accomplish this feat in 25 years.
