The tournament will be held at Whataburger Field, the home of the Double-A Corpus Christi Hooks of the Houston Astros system. This will be the first meeting for Maryland with both Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Washington. Maryland will be facing Pittsburgh for the seventh time and the first time in almost ten years. The Terps hold a 6-0 record over the Panthers, taking a 6-4 victory in the last meeting back on May 11, 2014.

The games will be streamed on Flo Baseball and air on the Maryland baseball Network.

The Terps are coming off their home opener, where they defeated Mount St. Mary's 14-3. The Terps finished with 12 hits and 13 walks in the game, while also getting a lights out performance from Ryan Van Buren on the mound. Van Buren got the start and went 5.2 innings, striking out four batters. Omar Melendez came on in relief in the seventh to close out the game, earning the three-inning save which was also the first of his career.

Maryland baseball: A Hacopian Family Tradition
  • Three Hacopians have donned the Maryland uniform. Currently brothers Eddie and Chris feature for the Terps in 2024. The one to get it all started was the patriarch of the family, Derek. Derek Hacopian was the ACC Player of the Year in 1992 for the Terrapins

Derek Hacopian held the single-season record for home runs for a Terp with 22, which he set in 1992. That record stood for 30 years, before Chris "Bubba" Alleyne in 2022. Hacopian hit for the triple crown in 1992, also finishing that year with 83 RBI (2nd most all-time in program history) and a .492 batting average (3rd all-time).

Eddie Hacopian made his debut for the Terps during the 2023 season. He finished his first year in College Park with a .328 batting average, eight home runs and 49 RBI. Hacopian finished opening weekend of 2024 with a .400 average, with an RBI and a pair of doubles.

Chris Hacopian rounds out the list, as the freshman made his debut in the season-opener for the Terps on Friday. Hacopian would slug his first home run of his career in the 7-1 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday, celebrating the accomplishment on the field with his older brother Eddie.

Transfers Make Their Mark
  • Through four games this season, multiple transfers have played key roles for the Terrapins.
  • Alex Calarco finished opening weekend with a .333 batting average and clubbed his first home run as a Terp. Calarco added to his line with two RBI in the Terps 14-3 win on Tuesday over Mount St. Mary's. Charlie Glennon, a transfer catcher from D-III Denison,  made his first start as a Terp on Sunday and picked up not only his first hit as a Terp, but his first hit in Division I.
  • On the mound both Logan Koester and Meade Johnson made their Terrapins debuts, as both right-handers started the final two games of the series. Koester picked up the win in Maryland's 7-1 win over Georgia Southern on Saturday.
  • In the bullpen, Logan Berrier came on in relief in the 5-4 win over Georgia Southern on Feb. 16. The redshirt senior threw four innings and struck out six Eagles' hitters, getting his first win of his Terrapins career. Trystan Sarcone made his debut in Maryland's 7-1 win over the Eagles, throwing an inning and striking out one.
  • Omar Melendez made his first appearance in a Maryland uniform in its 14-3 win over Mount St. Mary's. Melendez went three innings in relief, picking up the save and struck out five batters. The save for Melendez on Tuesday was also the first of his career.

  • On Opening Day, Orr hit a two-run homer to help start the comeback for the Terps. This marked the second consecutive opening day game where Orr hit a home run, with the junior hitting a home run in the season opener last year against USF.
  • These home runs in consecutive years on opening day makes Orr the first Terrapin to accomplish this feat in 25 years.
