Courtney Wyche Named Big Ten Pitcher of the Week

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Fifth-year graduate student Courtney Wyche added another accolade to her phenomenal career as she was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week in an announcement by the conference on Monday. Wyche was named the Big Ten Pitcher of the Week for the first time this season and the third time in her career. The most recent Maryland player to win this award was Courtney Wyche last season on April 3, 2023.

Wyche led the Terps to a 3-2 win over Boston College on Friday.  The Silver Spring native, pitched nine innings and struck out 11 batters to help Maryland defeat Boston College in extra innings.  This season, 11 K's is the second most in a single game in the Big Ten and nine innings pitched is the most for one player in a single game this season in the Big Ten.  With her 11 strikeouts in the game on Friday she has increased her career total to 484 which is sixth all-time. She's just eight strikeouts away from passing Monica Cyphert (2001-04) for fifth all-time. This was Courtney's 38th complete game of her career.

This adds to an impressive list of career accolades for Wyche. Courtney is seventh on the all-time innings pitched list.  She has pitched 502.2 innings and is 16.9 innings from passing Monica Cyphert (2001-04).  Wyche received her 44th win of her career which ranks sixth all-time. She is now only five wins away from passing Kailtyn Schmeiser (2012-15) and moving into the top five.  With her 38th complete game of her career, Courtney is now seventh all-time.  She is just three away from passing Kerry Hickey (2008-11) for sixth all-time.

The Terps will be back in action on Tuesday, as they turn their attention to the Virginia Cavaliers who will come into town for a one game match-up. The game is set for 6 p.m, and will stream on BTN+ and live stats will be available.
