Leubecker’s Five Goals Extends No. 2 Terps’ Win Streak, Beats Georgetown 13-7

Box Score WASHINGTON – No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse extended its winning streak to five games after Hannah Leubecker scored five goals against Georgetown. The Terps raced past the Hoyas, 13-7, on Wednesday at Cooper Field.
  Maryland (8-1) led the entirety of the game outside of less than a minute in the first half where Georgetown (2-7) briefly tied the game at 2-2. The Terps proceeded to outscore the Hoyas 11-5 the rest of the way, including six unanswered goals in the third quarter. Leubecker posted her team leading fourth hat trick of the season in the first half and became the first Terp to record five goals in a game this season.  
  Kori Edmondson also notched a hat trick with three goals in the game. It was her third of the season. Both Leubecker and Edmondson scored three or more goals in back-to-back games. 
  Eloise Clevenger moved into the fifth spot on Maryland's career assists record column with four in the game. She added one goal to her stat line. Her sister, Maisy Clevenger recorded her fourth career multi-point game with one goal and one assist.  
  Goalie Emily Sterling saved nine shots in another outstanding defensive performance. She allowed just three goals in the second half. 
  The Terps held a 17-5 advantage on draw controls led by the duo of Shaylan Ahearn and Meghan Ball. Ahearn won seven draws and Ball won five. 

 The Terps have won 14 consecutive games against the Hoyas dating back to 2007. 


Breaking Down The Action
  • Maryland scored the first two goals of the game from Kori Edmondson and Hannah Leubecker. Edmondson's occurred on the Terps' first possession and Leubecker added to the box score with one off a feed from Eloise Clevenger to take a 2-0 lead two minutes into the game. 
  • Georgetown got on the board three times in the opening quarter, but Maryland added three more goals by Maisy Clevenger, Leubecker and Edmondson to lead 5-3 after one. Edmondson's second goal occurred with one second on the clock. 
  • The Terps led 7-4 at halftime. The Hoyas scored just one in the second quarter while Leubecker scored twice to give her a season-high four goals and counting at halftime. 
  • Edmondson joined the hat trick party sandwiched by goals from Chrissy Thomas and Eloise Clevenger to make it a 3–0 scoreless run for the Terps. The run extended to 6-0 at the end of the third after goals by Victoria Hensh, Hailey Russo and Leubecker. The Terps held a commanding 13-5 advantage. 
  • The Hoyas scored twice in the final quarter, but the game was already out of reach. The Terps won their fifth straight game.    
Hat Trick Terps  Multi Terps Update
  • Hannah Leubecker (five goals) notched her 52nd career multi-point game and 50th multi-goal game.
  • Eloise Clevenger (one goal and four assists) had the 42nd multi-point game of her career. It was her 29th game with multiple assists It was also her 19th with three or more assists. 
  • Kori Edmondson (three goals) has recorded multiple points with multiple goals in 18 games in her career. 
  • Hailey Russo (one goal and one assist) recorded the fourth multi-point game of her career. 
  • Maisy Clevenger (one goal and one assist) had the fourth multi-point game of her career. 
Terps On The Charts 
  • Emily Sterling is fourth on the career saves list and added nine in the game. She now has 577 in her career. Third place is Marylynne Morgan (1981-84) with 720 career saves. 
  • Eloise Clevenger moved up to fifth on the all-time assists list. She had four in the game and has 112 in her career. She passed Caitlyn McFadden (2007-10) and Quinn Carney (1998-2001) in the contest. Next on the list is Sarah Mollison (2008-11) with 119 career assists. 
  • Shaylan Ahearn is third in program history with 365 draw control wins. She added to her total with seven on Wednesday. Next on the list is Kali Hartshorn (2017-20), who had 421 in her career.
  • Hannah Leubecker is No. 10 on the career goals list with 184. She passed Jen Giles (2016-19) and is closing in on Kelly Amonte (1993-96) with 187 career goals. 
Dominating The Series
  • The Terps lead the all-time series against Georgetown, 25-4 and have won 14 straight against the Hoyas dating back to 2007. Cathy Reese is a perfect 14-0 over Georgetown.
  • The last time these programs met, Maryland beat Georgetown, 13-4, behind eight points from Kori Edmondson and Shaylan Ahearn combined. Edmondson had a hat trick and an assist, while Ahearn had three feeds and a goal. Emily Sterling made an impressive 15 saves to finish the night with a .789 save percentage.
