Box Score COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 2 Maryland women's lacrosse defeated Rutgers, 13-8, in its conference home opener at Field Hockey & Lacrosse Complex on Sunday. The Terps have never lost a conference home game under
Cathy Reese, going undefeated in each of her 17 seasons at the helm.
Hannah Leubecker scored a season-high six goals in the game.
Maryland (9-1, 2-0 Big Ten) led 6-1 at the end of the first quarter and cruised to its second conference win of the season. Rutgers (5-5, 0-3 Big Ten) cut the lead to 10-8 early in the fourth quarter, but Leubecker netted two goals and Libby May added one to make it three unanswered goals to put the game out of reach. Leubecker notched her fifth hat trick of the season and has 11 goals over her last two games after scoring five against Georgetown.
The Terps defense held the Scarlet Knights to its lowest-scoring output of the season at halftime with just three goals. Emily Sterling made eight saves between the pipes and
Brianna Lamoureux caused a career-high three turnovers.
Meghan Ball also caused two turnovers, picked up two groundballs and won four draw controls against her former team.
May joined the hat trick party with her second of the season, finishing with three goals. Kori Edmondson netted two goals and Eloise Clevenger dished out four assists.
Shaylan Ahearn won eight draw controls and finished with one more than Rutgers as a team (seven).
Maryland improved to 26-1 all-time against Rutgers. The Terps have also won six straight games.
Breaking Down The Action
- Libby May struck first for the Terps notching her 17th goal of the season, Kori Edmondson would add to the lead on the man advantage a minute and a half later sending it to the top left corner. The Terps continued to control the first quarter adding four more goals, (2) by Hannah Leubecker, one from May, and one from Chrissy Thomas. The Scarlet Knights could only score once in the quarter and trailed 6-1 entering the second quarter.
- Rutgers responded strongly, scoring two goals in the second quarter and holding the Terps scoreless as well, trailing 6-3 at the half.
- The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair as both Rutgers and Maryland each scored four goals in the quarter. The Terps' goals were scored by (2) from Leubecker, one apiece from Edmondson and Maggie Weisman. Maryland led 10-7 entering the final quarter.
- Edmondson continued her dominant output adding two more goals in the quarter for her season- high (6) goals to ultimately keep Rutgers out of reach. Libby May scored the Terps third straight goal in the fourth quarter and notched a hat trick for her as well in the game.

- Eloise Clevenger (four assists) had the 43rd multi-point game of her career. It was her 30th game with multiple assists. It was also her 20th with three or more assists.
- Libby May (three goals) recorded the 60th multi-point game of her career. It was her 54th career game with multiple goals.
- Kori Edmondson (two goals) has recorded multiple points with multiple goals in 19 games in her career.
- Chrissy Thomas (one goal and one assist) had the 16th multi-point game of her career.
