Julian Reese announced on Wednesday that he will return for his senior campaign. As a junior, Reese earned All-Big Ten Honorable Mention honors for the second consecutive season and was named to the league's preseason team as well as the Karl Malone Power Forward of the Year Watch List.
Reese became the 61
st player in program history to reach 1,000 career points during his junior campaign. He will enter the 2024-25 season with 1,010 points and 689 rebounds through 98 career games. Last season, he averaged 13.7 points and 9.5 rebounds per game to go with 60 blocks, 32 steals, and 41 assists – all career-high marks. He fell just shy of becoming just the fifth Terp since 1993-94 to average a double-double for a season.
For his career, Reese is now averaging 10.3 points and 7.0 rebounds in 25.5 minutes per game. His .558 shooting percentage ranks seventh-best all-time in program history, while his 689 career rebounds are tied for the 17
th most. His 125 career blocked shots are tied for 11
th overall.
Among the Big Ten and nationally, he will be one of the top returning post players in 2024-25. His career-best 15 double-doubles last year ranked second in the league behind Purdue's Zach Edey and were 21
st nationally. He ranked fourth in the Big Ten for blocks per game (1.9), was second in total rebounds (303), and was third in rebounds per game (9.5).
Reese was the only player nationally in 2023-24 to average over 10.0 points, 9.5 rebounds, 1.9 blocks, and 1.0 steals per game. Only Edey and Reese posted over 400 points, 275 rebounds and 50 blocks this year among Big Ten players.
