COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Terrapins close out their four-game home stand as they host Delaware on March 5. This will be the first of two meetings between the Terrapins and the Blue Hens during the 2024 season. The game will be streamed on B1G+ and will air on the Maryland Baseball Network.

Maryland secured its first series sweep of the 2024 campaign, taking all three from the visiting Bryant Bulldogs. The Terrapins won the series with a combined score of 26-10, and reached double-digit hits in all three games. Pitching led the Terps in the first two games of the series. Kenny Lippman worked six innings, allowing just three hits, no earned runs, and striking out nine batters. The nine strikeouts by Lippman on Friday were the most for the right-hander in his career at Maryland. Logan Koester led the Terps with a seven inning performance in game 2 of the series, equaling Lippman's three hits allowed and holding the Bulldogs scoreless. The Terps closed the weekend with the offense scoring 11 runs, thanks in part to 10 hits and nine walks by the offense. Logan Berrier threw 3.2 innings in relief, getting out of a bases-loaded jam in the third inning to keep the Terps in the game early on.

The Terps hold a 26-15-1 record in the all-time series with the Blue Hens and have won the last three games in the match-up. The Terrapins won all three games between the two teams last year, including a 19-7 win back on May 3, 2023 where the Terps scored seven runs in the first inning.

Delaware (6-4) is coming off a series victory over Lafayette at home. Delaware opened the series with an 11-4 win, with the offense erupting for 12 hits in the win. After dropping the second game of the series 2-4, Delaware would come back for a 6-5 walk-off win on Sunday. Redshirt senior outfielder Jake Dunion would slug a home run on the first pitch he saw with the Blue Hens down to their final out. The Blue Hens are led in batting average by Dunion, who comes into the game with a .351 average. Andrew Amato leads the team with four home runs, and is tied with Aidan Kane for a team-leading 13 RBI. Eli Atiya leads the team on the mound, with a 0.00 ERA through 10.2 innings. The junior lefty has struck out 14 batters and is holding opposing hitters to a .091 batting average.

Walk It Out

Maryland Baseball: a Hacopian Family Tradition

  • Derek Hacopian held the single-season record for home runs for a Terp with 22, which he set in 1992. That record stood for 30 years, before Chris "Bubba" Alleyne in 2022. Hacopian hit for the triple crown in 1992, also finishing that year with 83 RBI (2nd most all-time in program history) and a .492 batting average (3rd all-time).

  • So far this season, Chris has driven in Eddie to score on multiple occasions. To this point in the season, Chris has driven in Eddie four times to score.
