Terps Add USF Standout Selton Miguel For 2024-25 Campaign

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Coming off a career-best season at South Florida, guard Selton Miguel has joined the Maryland men's basketball program as announced by head coach Kevin Willard today. Miguel, the cousin of former Terp standout and current Atlanta Hawk Bruno Fernando, was the American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year and the league's Most Improved Player after averaging 14.7 points per game last season.

"Selton is a highly competitive player who can really impact the game on both sides of the court," said Willard. "He's another veteran player who can help us immediately and who has played in a lot of high-level games."

Miguel, a native of Angola, shot 39 percent beyond the arc last season for the Bulls and ranked second on the team in assists (71) and steals (38). In his two seasons with USF, the 6-foot-4, 210-pound guard averaged 12.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 2.7 assists per game after appearing in 61 contests. During the 2023-24 campaign, Miguel was also selected to the All-AAC Second Team.

Prior to his time in Tampa, he played two seasons at Kansas State where he saw action in 55 games averaging 7.2 points, 3.5 rebounds, and 1.9 assists.

Overall, Miguel has scored 1,189 career points, including nearly 800 at USF in two seasons, and has played in 118 career games. He also has 393 career rebounds, 273 assists, and 104 steals.

Before college, Miguel was a Top 150 prospect from West Oaks Academy in Orlando, Florida, and was among the Top 30 small forwards nationally. After averaging 20.6 points as a senior, he finished with over 1,500 for his prep career.

Originally from Luanda, Angola, Miguel moved to Portugal at age 13 before coming to the United States in the ninth grade. He is fluent in four languages (Portuguese, Spanish, French, and English) and has been a member of the Angolan National Team.
