Maryland Loses Thriller At Georgetown, 13-12

TYSONS, VA – Maryland baseball suffered a 13-12 loss to Georgetown at Capital One Park on Tuesday. The Terps already won the season series against the Hoyas as they previously defeated them 14-5 at home on Feb. 27 and 11-4 on March 26 at Georgetown.

Georgetown (22-9), ranked No. 65 in RPI, took a 13-9 lead with a three-run home run by Christian Ficca and an RBI double in the seventh inning. Jake Hyde and Owen Carapellotti each homered twice in the ballgame as well. Their blasts in the sixth, along with another RBI double, tied the game at 9-9.

Maryland (22-11), ranked No. 30 in RPI, made it a one-run game after Sam Hojnar jacked his second home run of the game in the eighth with a three-run blast. It was his second career two home run game. He recorded one as with Iowa before transferring to Maryland. However, the Terps couldn't reclaim their earlier lead despite strong hitting performances from their lineup.
Hojnar finished the game 3-for-3 with three runs and a career-matching six RBIs. He has seven home runs on the season and has homered in all three games against the Hoyas.

Freshman left-handed pitcher Evan Smith also recorded a career outing. He came out of the bullpen and pitched 3.1 scoreless innings and struck out seven batters. Both were career-highs and he allowed just two hits.
The Terrapins opened the game with nine of its first 10 at-bats resulting in a hit, walk or sacrifice fly. Chris Hacopian hit a two-run home run for his team-leading eighth homer of the season and Elijah Lambros hit an RBI triple. Kevin Keister, Alex Calarco and Brayden Martin added sacrifice flies in the innings to key an early 6-0 lead.
Eddie Hacopian went 2-for-3 with three runs. Martin finished 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.

Swope On Smith's Strong Outing
"I was really, really happy with that outing," head coach Matt Swope said. Definitely got some upside, definitely a bright spot. We knew we were going to put him in probably as one of the first people just matchup wise. He did a good job to took advantage of the opportunity."
