Maryland Begins Streak of Three-Straight Road Games Against Navy on Thursday

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland closes out the first month of the 2024 season with a match-up with Navy on Aug. 29. The two teams are meeting for the third consecutive season, with the previous two games ending in a draw.

The game will air on ESPN+.

The Terrapins are coming off a 1-1 draw at home against James Madison on Aug. 25. Both teams played to a stalemate in the first half, as both defenses kept the opposing offenses at bay. Maryland would open the scoring in the game in the 83rd minute, thanks to a goal by Emily Lenhard. Lenhard scored the goal off a corner for an Olimpico. The Terps would hold the lead until the 89th minute, when James Madison would get the equalizer.

Series History - Navy
  • The Terrapins and the Midshipmen have met 17 times in the all-series, with the Terps holding the advantage with a 11-2-4 record. The two teams met during the 2023 season, with the game ending in a 3-3 draw.
  • Maryland opened its 2023 home slate by hosting Navy on Aug. 24. The Terps opened the scoring taking a 2-0 in the game's first 15 minutes. Madison Krakower scored the second goal for the team, which was the first in her collegiate career. Navy answered, scoring three goals to take a 3-2 lead in the second half. In the 78th minute, a ball fell to the feet of Katie Coyle in the box, who put it past the keeper to tie the game at three apiece and scored her first goal as a Terp.

Madison Krakower scored the second goal for the Terps in their 3-3 draw with Navy last season. The goal for Krakower was the first of her collegiate career.
Shot Stopper
  • Liz Beardsley continues to be a stalwart in goal for the Terps. Beardsley made 17 saves in the season's first three games, and is currently one of the nation's top shot stoppers. Beardsley's 17 saves so far this season lead the Big Ten.
  • Beardsley was a key force in goal for the Terps during the 2023 season. Beardsley made 67 saves in 2023 for the Terps. Beardsley helped lead the team to six shutouts last season. Her six shutouts a season ago were the most for a Maryland goalkeeper since 2014.

Liz Beardsley has been impressive in goal for the squad through three games. Beardsley has 17 saves to start the season, which is the most in the Big Ten through the season's first four games
Olimpico!
  • Emily Lenhard got on the scoresheet in a big way in Maryland's 1-1 draw with James Madison on Aug. 25. Lenhard took a corner for the Terrapins in the 83rd minute, scoring from the corner spot for an Olimpico. The goal was the first of her collegiate career, and came on her lone shot of the game.
  • Lenhard has played and started in all four of the Terps matches in 2024. Lenhard is tied for the team lead with one goal. The first year player from Stafford, Virginia is fourth on the team in minutes played with 318, and is averaging 79 minutes played across the four games.

Scouting the Midshipmen
  • Navy comes into the contest with a 2-2 record through its first four games of the season. Navy is coming off a 3-2 win at home over Fairleigh Dickinson. Navy scored all three of its goals in the first half, while Fairliegh Dickinson scored both of its goals 10 minutes into the second half. Despite being out-shot 15-7 in the game, Navy was more clinical with its opportunities while goalkeeper Natasha Stramrood made five saves to help secure the win.
  • Rylee Rivas leads the Midshipmen offense with three goals so far this season. Rivas' three goals this season are the 25th-most nationally and leads the Patriot League. Alexa Riddle and Mimi Abusham are tied for the team lead with three assists. Both are tied for the most assists in the Patriot League and are tied for the 15th-most in the nation.
  • In goal Stramrood leads Navy with 18 saves on the season. Stramrood is one of the shot-stoppers in the Patriot League, ranking third in the conference in saves. The freshman set a season-high with seven saves for Navy back on Aug. 18 against Rice.
