Keep An Eye On Altieri
- Heading into the start of the 2024 cross country season, the Big Ten announced its Runners To Watch for the year with Katie Altieri chosen as one of the top performers in the league.
- Altieri has been one of the top distance runners for the Terps throughout her career. Last year during the cross country campaign, she had a pair of top-five finishes with fourth-place showings at the Baltimore Metro Meet and the Navy Cross Country Invitational.
Last Year's Season Opener
- Last season, Maryland won the Baltimore Metro Meet, hosted by Goucher College, to open the 2023 season with five runners earning top-10 finishes. Anna Coffin, Rose Coats, and Katie Altieri placed second, third, and fourth, respectively, to lead the Terps.
The Terps had five top-10 finishers last year to win the Baltimore Metro Meet.
Looking Ahead
- Maryland will be headlined this season by the veteran trio of Altieri, Rose Coats, and Katie Turk. The Terps return 12 members from last season's squad while adding six newcomers.
- Overall, the squad will take part in four regular season races before heading to the Big Ten Championship (Nov. 1) followed by the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Meet (11/15).
- Last season, the Terps finished 10th at the Big Ten Championship to equal its best mark in the event originally set in 2017. That set-up an eighth-place finish at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional meet which was the best finish for the harriers since 2003.
