COLLEGE PARK, MDÂ --Â Maryland heads to the Prairie State for its first conference road matches of the season this week. The Terps play at Northwestern on Thursday, before closing out the week on Sunday at Illinois.
The game against Northwestern is scheduled for Thursday Sept. 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET onÂ
B1G+. The match against Illinois is slated for a 3:00 p.m. ET kickoff and will also be broadcast on
Big Ten Network.
All three teams are winless in the Big Ten after the first two weekends of conference action. The Fighting Illini has one point in the standings thanks to a 2-2 tie on the road at Wisconsin on Sept. 19.
Series Histories
- Maryland never met Northwestern prior to the Terps joining the Big Ten in 2014 and trail in the all-time series with the Wildcats 1-4-2. The two teams haven't met since the fall of 2021 when they played to a 1-1 double-OT tie in College Park. The Terps' lone win in the series came in 2018 with a 2-1 win at Ludwig Field on Oct. 7.
- The Illini lead the Terps, 4-3-1, in their all-time series, which dates back to 2014. The squads last met in 2022 with Illinois coming from behind to take a 3-2 victory in College Park on Sept. 22. The last time in Champaign, the Illini also took a one-goal decision, besting the Terps 2-1 on Oct. 3, 2021.
Maryland had not met either Illinois or Northwestern until the Terps joined the Big Ten in 2014. Maryland and Northwestern last met in 2021, playing to a 1-1 double-OT draw in College Park. Maryland and Illinois last met in 2022, with the Illini taking a 3-2 win.
Ringing the Bell Twice
- Kennedy Bell's two-goal performance in the Terps' 4-0 win over VCU on Sept. 8 was the first time a Terp scored twice in a game since Lisa McIntyre scored twice against James Madison on Aug. 27, 2023.
- Bell opened the scoring in the 5th minute, finishing a scramble inside the 8-meters. She added her second of the day less than two minutes later on a breakaway off of a beautifully paced through ball from Peyton Bernard.
- Bell is the first Terp to score twice in the first half of a match since teammate Ava Morales found the net twice in the opening 45 minutes at Purdue on Oct. 23, 2022.

Olimpico!
- Emily Lenhard got on the scoresheet in a big way in Maryland's 1-1 draw with James Madison on Aug. 25. Lenhard took a corner for the Terrapins in the 83rd minute, scoring from the corner spot for an Olimpico. The goal was the first of her collegiate career, and came on her lone shot of the game.
- Lenhard has played in 11 games and made eight starts for the Terps in 2024. Lenhard also leads the Terps with three assists on the season.. The first-year player from Stafford, Virginia is sixth on the team in minutes played with 757, and is averaging 68 minutes played in 2024.
Dishing Out The Assists
- Maryland has 11 assists on the season, and are led by Emily Lenhard who has three. Following Lenhard is the trio of Kennedy Bell, Ellie Egeland, and Ava Morales who all have\ two assists through the team's first eight games.
- Lenhard picked up two assists in Maryland's game against George Mason, which is the first time in almost two years that a Maryland women's soccer player picked up two assists in a game. The last player to accomplish the feat was Catherine DeRosa, who had two assists back on September 4, 2022 against George Mason.
- Ava Morales picked up her first collegiate assist this season, coming Maryland's 2-0 season-opening win over Lehigh. Morales picked up her second assist of the campaign against Stony Brook back on August 18.
Emily Lenhard leads the Terps with three assists. Lenhard had two assists in Maryland's game against George Mason, which was the first time in almost two years the a Terp had two assists in a game.
Going Back-To-Back
- With her 22nd minute goal against Towson on Sept. 5, Taryn Raibon scored in consecutive games for the Terps. Raibon's two goals this season are tied for the second-most on the team with Kelsey Smith and Delaney DeMartino.
- The last time a Terp scored in consecutive games was last season, when Ava Morales scored in third-straight games. Morales' streak last season Sept. 3 against Towson, and continued with goals against George Mason (Sept. 7, 2023) and at Binghamton (Sept. 10, 2023).
Taryn Raibon has scored in consecutive games for the Terps against George Mason and Towson. This marked the second season in a row that a Terps player scored in consecutive games.
Scouting the Wildcats
- Northwestern is 5-5-1 overall and 0-3-0 in the Big Ten in 2024. After a 2-0 shutout loss to Purdue on Sept. 12 to open conference play, the Wildcats lost a pair of one-goal games on the road this past weekend - 1-0 at #9 Penn State (Sept. 19) and 2-1 at #17 Ohio State (Sept. 22).
- Kennedy Roesch leads NU in goals (4) and points (9), while Josie Aulicino and Nicole Doucette share the team lead with three assists apiece. Reiley Fitzpatrick has started all 11 matches in net and has a 1.01 goals-against average with three shutouts.
Scouting the Fighting Illini
- Illinois is 4-4-2 overall and 0-2-1 in the Big Ten this season. A 1-0 home loss in the conference opener to Minnesota was followed up with a 2-2 tie at Wisconsin. The Illini lead 2-0 in the second half, but surrendered two in the final 45 minutes, including the game-tying goal in the 87th minute to concede the tie. Illinois then lost to unbeaten Iowa, 2-1, at home on Sept. 22.
- Sarah Foley tops the Illini with 15 points (6th in the B1G) and seven goals (T-4th in the B1G). Sydney Stephens leads Illinois with three assists. Izzy Lee has played every minute in goal for the Illini and has a 1.30 goals-against average with two shutouts.
