COLLEGE PARK, MD - No. 4 Maryland is set to face familiar foes in the Big Ten/ACC Challenge, for the second consecutive year, taking on No. 17 Boston College and #5 Duke. The Terps will play #17 Boston College on Friday, September 6 at 3 p.m. followed by a top 5 match-up with No. 5 Duke on Sunday at 12 p.m.

  • #5 Duke is coming off a dominant 2-0 weekend at home, defeating William & Mary 5-0 and UMass Lowell 3-1. The Blue Devils registered 15 shots on goal and 28 total shots against William & Mary. Preseason All-ACC Alaina McVeigh is already off to a hot start with 3 goals and one assist. McVeigh led the ACC in goals last season.

  • #17 Boston College also enjoyed a 2-0 weekend at home with wins over Northeastern 3-1 and Boston University 6-0.  Peyton Hale and Yani Zhong have combined for 5 of Eagles' 9 total goals.  
  • Last season, Maryland fell 2-1 to Duke at College Park but secured a 1-0 overtime victory against Boston College.
  • Maryland is 17-10 all-time against Duke and is 8-1 all-time on the road against the Blue Devils.  
  • Maryland is 14-3 all-time against Boston College and is 7-3 against the Eagles in the last ten meetings.

  • #4 Maryland will travel to Evanston, IL coming off a 2-0 opening weekend in College Park.  
  • On Friday, Maryland walked it off against #7 Louisville, 2-1, in double overtime.  Senior Hope Rose delivered the game-winning goal with 1:18 remaining in the second overtime.  Sophomore defender Josie Hollamon scored the other goal for Maryland off a penalty corner in the second period.  The Terps' defense led by fifth-year Rayne Wright came through with timely takeaways.  Maryland has now won 28 consecutive season-openers.  
  • On Sunday, Maryland was able to win 2-0 over Drexel.  The Terps have opened the season 2-0 for three straight years going back to the 2022 season. In the third quarter, junior forward Fleur Knopert scored the go-ahead goal at 36:59. The score was the transfer from Ball State's first career goal in a Maryland uniform. Sophomore forward Maci Bradford scored Maryland's second goal at 50:33 in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. The goal was Bradford's 11th of her career and her first of the 2024 campaign.

  • Sophomore goalkeeper Alyssa Klebasko finished the game with two saves. She was awarded her first shutout of the season and sixth of her career after totaling five as a freshman in 2023.

  • The Terrapins return multiple key players at all positions. 
  • Hope Rose was the Terps' leading scorer at the end of the 2023 campaign with 28 points from 13 goals and two assists. She returns to College Park for her senior season. She is joined by sophomore Maci Bradford, who ended the year with 25 points from ten goals and five assists.
  • Hope Rose scored her ninth game-winning goal as a Terp as her clutch goal in double overtime helped Maryland defeat #7 Louisville in the season opener. 
  • Maci Bradford scored Maryland's second goal against Drexel in the fourth quarter to put the game out of reach. The goal was Bradford's 11th of her career and her first of the 2024 campaign. 
  • Rayne Wright returns for her fifth season after spending four years with the Terps. Wright was a team captain for the 2023 season and started in all 23 games.  Wright helped shutdown some of the nation's best offensive players and was named to the 2023 All-Big Ten First Team. Starting in every game this past season Wright recorded nearly 1,300 minutes of action on the back line. 
  • Wright came up with timely defensive takeaways this past weekend to open the season and helped Maryland secure their first shutout this season on Sunday against Drexel.

Sophomore Maci Bradford scored her 11th goal of her career in only her 24th career game.  
Fresh faces
  • Maryland welcomes nine new additions to the Terrapin family, including two transfers and seven freshmen.
  • Transfer student Alina Gerke (Vermont) adds a veteran touch to the roster coming to Maryland for her senior year. Fleur Knopert (Ball State) will join the Terps after playing two years at Ball State and will have two years of remaining eligibility in College Park.

  • During her junior season at Vermont, Gerke was named to the American East All-Conference First Team for the second straight year.  She started in all 18 games in the midfield and set career highs in goals (10) and points (22).
  • At Ball State, Knopert played in all 18 games at forward and led the team in goals (13) and points (28).
  • On Sunday, Knopert scored the go-ahead goal at 36:59 against Drexel. The score was the transfer from Ball State's first career goal in a Maryland uniform. 

  • Freshmen Callie Rogers, Ella Gaitan, Adèle Jardemar, Annemijn Klijnhout, Kristina Johnson, AJ Eyre, and Ellie Goldstein all bring in a collection of unique skill sets, adding great depth at all positions.
  • Eyre was one of six Terps that represented the University of Maryland in the 2024 Senior Nexus Championship in Virginia Beach this summer.  The Senior NXC is held annually and features 144 elite collegiate and post-collegiate athletes.  During the spring and early summer, athletes trialed and trained at one of the seven USA Field Hockey High Performance Centers throughout the country for an opportunity to be selected to the Senior NXC.

celebrating 50 years of excellence
  • This year, Maryland will be celebrating 50 years of the historic field hockey program.
  • This past weekend, Maryland honored 50 years by hosting alumni and celebrated each national championship team at halftime.  
  • Under Hall of Fame coaches Sue Tyler and Missy Meharg the Terps have epitomize the word dominance in field hockey.

  • With eight NCAA titles, Maryland is third most among all Division 1 schools.

  • The Terps have reached the Final Four a historic 21 times and have an all-time winning percentage above 75 percent.
  • Maryland currently has the longest active streak of NCAA tournament appearances, with 28 consecutive bids. 

  • Maryland is just four wins away from 800 program wins.

This past weekend Maryland celebrated 50 years of field hockey by hosting alumni from each decade.
Championship coaching
  • Missy Meharg returns for her 37th season as head coach. A nine-time National Coach of the Year recipient, Meharg brings an unprecedented level of consistency and excellence to the Maryland field hockey program. 
  • Meharg became the third coach in Division I history to reach 600 wins in 2021. She is not shy of championships as she has lead the Terps to seven national titles, including five in seven years,12 conference tournament crowns,15 conference regular season titles and 19 appearances in the NCAA Semifinals round, including 12 in the NCAA Finals.
  • She is supported by associate head coach Scott Tupper (fourth season), assistant coach Kasey Tapman Asper (fourth season) and goalie specialist Jenny Rizzo (first season).
