Scott Tupper enters his fourth season with the Terps in 2024 after joining Head Coach Missy Meharg's staff as an assistant coach in June 2021. Tupper, a three-time Olympian, came to College Park after serving as an assistant coach at Lafayette the previous year.
In 2022, Tupper was a key part of the Terrapin staff that led Maryland to a 19-4 record, Big Ten Championship and NCAA Final Four appearance.
In his first season in College Park, Tupper helped the Terrapins to a record of 15-7, including seven wins over ranked teams, and an appearance in the NCAA Final Four.
Tupper was a key member of Canada's Senior National Team from 2005 until his retirement in 2021. Earning 322 caps in his career, and scoring a Canadian record 126 goals. He has appeared in three Olympic Games (2008, 2016, 2020) and holds the Canadian record for goals in an Olympic Games with the five goals he scored in Rio 2016. He played in four Pan American Games (2007, 2011, 2015, and 2019), three Pan American Cups (2009, 2013, and 2017) and three Commonwealth Games (2010, 2014, and 2018). He has served as Canada's team captain for the past eight years.
Individually, Tupper led Canada in goals in the 2016 Olympics with five and earned six consecutive Pan American All-Star selections. He also played five seasons with European clubs Der Club and der Alster of Germany (two seasons), Royal Racing Brussels of Belgium (two seasons), and Schaerweijde of Holland (one season).
"We could not be more pleased to have Scott join our program," Meharg said. "He will be a tremendous asset for the players and for our staff. As a three-time Olympian and professional hockey coach, Scott brings experience, expertise and excitement to our 2021 Terps."
"I'm very excited at the opportunity to join the University of Maryland field hockey program," Tupper said. "It's a privilege to work with a program that has such a long tradition of success within the NCAA, producing both championships and high-achieving student-athletes. I would like to thank Coach Meharg for the opportunity, and I can't wait to be on the field with the team in College Park."
Before his time at Lafayette, Tupper served as the Head of Programming and Recruiting and on-field coach for the Rob Short Coaching Academy of Vancouver for five years. While there, he helped eight of his athletes land Division I opportunities. He was also the domestic trainer and coach for Canada's U21 Men's National Team for three years.
