SEATTLE, WA – No. 24 Maryland men's basketball was defeated by Washington, 75-69, in its first-ever matchup at Alaska Airlines Arena on Thursday. Maryland sits at 11-3 overall and 1-2 in Big Ten play.
In a second half that featured nine instances where the game was tied, Washington converted an and-one to go up by four points at 62-58 with under five minutes to play. The Huskies remained in control the rest of the way, as DJ Davis's 3-pointer put the Huskies back up by four at 67-63. They then closed the game out from the free-throw line.
Julian Reese led the Terps with 22 points and eight rebounds. It was his fourth game this season with 20 or more points and the 11th of his career. Over his last two games, Reese is averaging 22.5 points and 9.5 rebounds.
Selton Miguel (12 points) and
Rodney Rice (10 points) added solid outings. Miguel has scored in double figures in eight straight games.
Jordan Geronimo and
DeShawn Harris-Smith came off the bench and added strong performances. Geronimo scored 10 points and grabbed five rebounds, and Harris-Smith scored eight.
The Terps came into the game No. 12 in the NCAA Net Rankings and No. 17 in KenPom's ratings.
Washington fell to 9-5 and 0-3 in Big Ten play. Great Osobor (20 points and 14 rebounds, and a career-high 18 points from freshman Vazoumana Diallo led the Huskies' scoring attack.
