COLLEGE PARK, MD - Maryland freshman center Derik Queen has been named as one of the 25 players on the Wooden Award Watch List. The list is composed of 25 student-athletes in contention for the Wooden Award All-American Team and Most Outstanding Player Award.
Queen looks to become the first Terp to be named to the Wooden Award All-American team since Greivis Vazquez in 2010.
The Baltimore native leads the Terps with 16.0 points per game while shooting 56.2% from the field. Queen ranks eighth in the Big Ten in rebounds per game with 8.0. Queen scored a season-high 26 points at Purdue on Dec. 8, and has scored 20 or more points in five games. Queen has finished with double-figure rebounds in five games as well, and is second on the team with five double-doubles.
All 25 student-athletes are eligible for the late season list and National Ballot. The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award®. Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament. The Wooden Award All American Team will be announced the week of the Elite Eight round of the NCAA Tournament. The winner of the 2025 John R. Wooden Award, presented by Principal, will be presented at the Los Angeles Athletic Club in April.

Wooden Award ProgramTM hosts the most prestigious honors in college basketball recognizing The Wooden Award Most Outstanding Player, The Wooden Award All America Teams for men and women and the annual selection of the Wooden Award Legend of Coaching recipient. Wooden Award® All Americans have proven to their university that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the John R. Wooden Award® as set forth by Coach Wooden and the Wooden Award® Steering Committee. Previous winners include Larry Bird ('79), Michael Jordan ('84), Tim Duncan ('97), Kevin Durant ('07), and the last two year's ('23 &'24) recipient, Zach Edey.
