Terps Head to Lehigh for Paul Short Run

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- The Cross Country Terps travel to Bethlehem, PA on Friday for their third race of the season. Lehigh University is to host the 51st annual Paul Short Invitational at the Goodman Campus Cross Country Course, with the 6K race beginning at 11:45 AM.
 
Last Time at Paul Short
  • Rose Coats turned out a top-15 finish, placing 14th in a field of 371 runners who completed the race with a time of 20:24.2
  • The other top finishers for Maryland were Katie Turk (87, 27:17.8), Katie Altieri (183, 22:00.5), Emma Lorey (272, 22:46.9), and Rubie Goffena (276, 22:50.3).
  • As a team, Maryland finished 28th of 42 schools who competed in the event.

Maryland in Mid-Atlantic Rankings
  • Maryland is currently ranked 8th in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Polls.
  • Penn State and Georgetown sit among the top of the Regional rankings at 1st and 3rd, respectively. Both schools also hold national rankings with Penn State ranked 15th and Georgetown ranked 20th, both running in the Paul Short Invitational. 
  • Other teams in the rankings who will be participating include Villanova (5th), Penn (6th), Pittsburgh (7th), Navy (9th), event host Lehigh (11th), Monmouth (12th), Delaware (14th), and Rutgers (15th).

  • Next up for the Terps is the Princeton Fall Classic hosted by Princeton University
  • Last showing at the Princeton Fall Classic saw Rose Coats setting a new program record in the 6K, becoming the first Terps to run a sub-20 minute 6K race.

Rose Coats: Runner to Watch
  • Heading into the start of the 2025 cross country season, the Big Ten announced its Runners To Watch for the year with Rose Coats chosen as one of the top performers in the league.
  • Coats had a stand out performance in the 2024 cross country season, being only the sixth Terp in program history to qualify for NCAA Championships. She finished the 6K race at 20:18.50 in 61st, the third best performance in program history.
  • Coats currently holds the record for the 6K as she broke it for a second time last season at the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regionals with a sub-20 time of 19 minutes, 53.8 seconds.
