Midnight Mile Set For Wednesday, October 22

COLLEGE PARK, MD - One of the greatest traditions in college basketball is set to return Wednesday, Oct. 22, as the Maryland men's basketball team kicks off the 2025-26 season with the Midnight Mile at Kehoe Track at Ludwig Field.

The men's basketball team will run the traditional mile alongside University of Maryland students in attendance.

This year's event marks the 53rd Anniversary of the original "Midnight Mile," when Hall of Fame head coach Lefty Driesell lined up his players at 12:03am on Oct. 15, 1971 to get a jumpstart on the rest of the teams around the country.

The event transformed into a staple for nearly every team across the country, as they celebrated the start of college basketball season with some sort of "Midnight Madness" event.

Run of Show:
11:15pm - Gates Open at Kehoe Track at Ludwig Field
12:03am - Mile run begins
Post Race - Raffle drawing

The first 300 students in attendance will receive a "Midnight Mile" t-shirt complimentary of Ledo Pizza. Additionally, all students will receive a race packet, race bib, pizza and drinks.

Race packet pickup will take place at Stamp Student Union the week of the race.
