BETHLEHEM, PA – In their third race of the season, the Terps competed in the Paul Short Run hosted by Lehigh. Junior
Rose Coats led the Terps, setting a new program record in the cross country 6K by nearly eight seconds.
Coats crossed the line first for the Terps in fourth place out of 335 runners with her third sub-20 minute 6K race during her Maryland career. She completed the course with a time of 19:45.4, knocking over 30 seconds off from her time at the 2024 Paul Short run of 20:24.2 where she came in 14th. Her previous personal record was 19:53.8 which she accomplished at last year's NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships.
Katie Dutko placed 63rd (21:57.7) followed by Eva Rogers (21:04.4) who finished 74th. The top five was rounded out by Lucy Scothern who set a new XC 6K personal record (210th, 22:01.6) and Leonora Lynn (220th, 22:07.6).
Earlier in the morning, Rebecca Burgee placed 43rd among 442 runners in the Women's Open 6K with a time of 22:21.3 – her best performance in a 6K race this season, improving her time from the Spiked Shoe Invitational by about 25 seconds. She was followed by Cayden Justice (62, 22:36.0) and AnnaMarie Tretola (125, 23:12.8).
Fifth regional ranked Villanova took the top spot in team finishes with a score of 110. No. 15 Penn State finished second with a score of 115, followed by No. 20 Georgetown with a score of 143. Texas A&M and Utah State rounded out the top-5 team finishes with scores of 172 and 214, respectively. Maryland came in 17th, an improvement of 11 spots from last year's Paul Short Run, with a score of 525.
Up Next: The Terps next race will be on October 17th as they travel to New Jersey for Princeton University's Princeton Fall Classic set to begin at 10:30 AM.
