Coit Scores XFINITY Record 41 Points In 95-90 OT Win Over Mount St. Mary's

The Terps won their third straight game as David Coit tallied a career-high 41 points.

COLLEGE PARK, MD — David Coit's seventh three of the night in the final seconds of regulation sent a back-and-forth battle to overtime, where the Terps (4-1) topped Mount St. Mary's (1-4) with a 95-90 win at the XFINITY Center on Wednesday night.  Coit's career-high 41 points (8/10 from three) propelled Maryland to a third straight win in a contest that featured 13 lead changes and 17/36 three-point shooting from The Mount. Coit recorded Maryland's eighth all-time 40+ point performance as the Terps outlasted Mount Saint Mary's to improve to 13-0 all-time against The Mount. His 41 points are the most by a player in the XFINITY Center and the third-most by a Terp ever.  On a night with plenty to celebrate both on and off the court, Elijah Saunders recorded a breakout night with 14 points (tying his season high) and five boards. Darius Adams pitched in a career-high 19-point night as he drained 17 free throws and grabbed seven rebounds. Andre Mills scored in double figures for the fourth time this season with 12 points. The Terps are 4-0 this season when Mills records double-digit scoring. Maryland is 4-1 to start a second straight season and will take a three-game winning streak into the Players Era Men's Championship Tournament in Las Vegas next week.

Coit's Record-Setting Night
  • Coit's career-high 41 points are tied for the third-most in a game in Maryland history with Grevis Vasquez (at Virginia Tech, Feb. 27, 2010), Len Bias (at Duke, Jan. 25, 1986) and Gene Shue (vs. Washington & Lee, Feb. 12, 1953).
  • The only players in Maryland history to record more points in a game are Ernest Graham with a school-record 44 vs. NC State on Dec. 20, 1978, and Al Bunge with 43 vs. Yale on Jan. 4, 1960.
  • The 41 points are the most by a men's player in the 23-year history of XFINITY Center, breaking the record of 39 by Diamond Stone vs. Penn State on Dec. 30, 2015. Minnesota's Jameson Battle also scored 39 against Maryland on March 2, 2022.
  • Coit's 41 are the most for a power conference player in a game this early season - in the entire country. The previous high was 38 by Ohio State's Bruce Thornton on Nov. 7 vs. Purdue-Fort Wayne.
  • Maryland women's basketball player Brionna Jones scored 42 for the Terps vs. Penn State on Jan. 11, 2017, for the overall record.
  • Additionally, Coit's eight 3-point field goals in a game are second only to school-record holder Mike Jones, who had nine vs. Kansas City on Dec. 13, 2006. That is also the XFINITY Record, making Coit second.

Coit's Career Night:
  • "I think what was working was my teammates playing in position to score, spacing us, reading the game, making the right decisions. I think it just flowed into scoring tonight."
  • "Every night it's going to be somebody else scoring and making a play. So I just try my best to make the right play. I did that for most of the time."
  • "I want the best shot we can get. I'm not trying to be selfish and say 'I want this shot'. If he's going and he's hot, we need to get him involved."
  • "We've got to win this game. That's all I'm thinking about. What can I do to help us win this game? What can I do?"
Double-Digit Nights:
  • Adams (19 points) collected his fourth double-digit performance of the season as he set a new career high in points.

  • Saunders (14 points) reached double figures on Wednesday for the 22nd time in his career and the third time in 2025.
Free Throw Marks
  • In making 17-of-21, freshman Darius Adams had the most makes and attempts by a Maryland player in a game since freshman Diamond Stone went 19-of-25 vs. Penn State pm Dec. 30, 2015. Stone's marks are both school records overall.
  • Adams' 17 makes and 21 attempts are the second-most by a player in Maryland history this century.
  • Adams was 6-of-6 from the line in overtime, as Maryland went 10-of-10 in overtime as a team.
  • Coit's 11-of-11 made free throws gave him a perfect 100 percent from the foul line. The last time a player made that many free throws without a miss was when Jahmir Young was 13-of-13 vs. Iowa on Feb. 14, 2024.
  • As a team, Maryland went 37-of-47 from the free-throw line. The 37 are most by Maryland since making 39 free throws vs. Hampton on Nov. 7, 2006. The 37 are the fifth-most in a game in Maryland history.
  • The 47 free throws attempted are the most since the Terps attempted 54 vs. Hampton in that 2006 game.
