COLLEGE PARK, MD – Coming off a 41-point performance in a 95-90 overtime win against Mount St. Mary's last Wednesday, Terps guard Diggy Coit was named the Big Ten Player of the Week as announced by the league on Monday afternoon.
Coit's 41 points are an XFINITY Center men's basketball record and tied for third all-time in a single-game at Maryland. The graduate transfer scored 16 of Maryland's final 19 points in the last 6:27 of the second half, including the game-tying three-pointer to force overtime.
Overall, Coit finished with a ridiculous stat line: 11-of-17 from the floor, 8-of-10 beyond the arc, and 11-of-11 at the free throw line. Dating back to 2004, Coit is just one of 14 players to shoot 64 percent or better from the floor with 8-or-more threes and 11-or-more made free throws.
His 41 points are the third-most this season for a single-game nationally. He enters tonight's game against UNLV with 1,316 points in 97 career games which ranks 39
th among all active NCAA players.
The Terps will take on UNLV at 12 AM ET (9 PM PT) in their first game of the Players Era Championship Tournament. Maryland will then face Gonzaga on Tuesday night at 9:30 PM ET (6:30 PM PT) before closing out its stay in Las Vegas on Wednesday or Thursday based on pool play results.
