ORLANDO, FL – Maryland head men's lacrosse coach John Tillman has been inducted into the IMLCA Coaches Hall of Fame as a member of the 2025 class. He joins John Danowski, John Desko, and Kevin Corrigan in this year's group.
Since taking over the Maryland program in 2010, Tillman has led one of the most successful runs in college lacrosse history. He has guided the Terrapins to two NCAA National Championships (2017, 2022), including the program's first title since 1975. Under his leadership, Maryland has reached 11 NCAA Final Fours and nine national championship games from 2011–2025.
Tillman owns a 195–56 career record and has led Maryland to five Big Ten regular-season titles and four Big Ten Tournament championships. His teams have won an NCAA-best 34 tournament games since 2011 and extended the program's streak to 22 consecutive seasons with double-digit wins and NCAA Tournament appearances.
He has coached 95 USILA All-Americans, 27 Scholar All-Americans, and three Tewaaraton Award winners. His 2022 team completed a historic 18–0 undefeated season, setting NCAA and program records for goals, points, and assists.
Tillman became Maryland's ninth head coach on June 16, 2010, after three seasons at Harvard, where he elevated the program nationally and secured a top-three recruiting class. Before Harvard, he spent 12 seasons at the U.S. Naval Academy, including six as head assistant coach and offensive coordinator, helping Navy reach four NCAA Tournaments and the 2004 national championship game.
A Corning, N.Y., native, Tillman is a 1991 Cornell graduate and former professional lacrosse player. He continues to serve the sport through the Tewaaraton Award Men's Selection Committee and community initiatives such as Team IMPACT, the Travis Manion Foundation, and the Brendan Looney Foundation.
