Maryland at Navy Invitational

COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland track and field team will kick off the 2025-26 indoor season at the Navy Invitational in Annapolis this Saturday, December 6. The meet will start at 9 AM for the throws and jumps and 11:45 AM for the track events in the Wesley A. Brown Fieldhouse. The Terps will compete against Johns Hopkins, Loyola, Mount St. Mary's, Navy, and William & Mary.
Notes for Traveling Fans:
• Vehicular access to the Naval Academy is limited to those drivers with a Department of Defense identification card.
• All other visitors must either park outside of the Naval Academy grounds and walk through the security gates at Gate 1 or take the complimentary shuttles from Navy-Marine Corps Memorial Stadium (550 Taylor Avenue, Annapolis, Md., 21401).
• The shuttles will run from 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
• Enter the blue/west parking lot through gate 5 off of Taylor Avenue.
• The cost of parking is $10.
• Visitors 18 years and older must present a government-issued identification card (driver's license / passport) to gain access to the Academy grounds, while visitors 17 and younger must be accompanied by an adult.
A peek at the scheduLe
- This will be the only meet in December for the Terps.
- The season kick into full gear in January with the Terps heading to the Penn State Nittany Lion Challenge (1/17).
- Overall, Maryland will compete in eight meets prior to the Big Ten Championships in Indianapolis.
The Terps are set to compete in eight meets this year to prep for the Big Ten and NCAA Championships.
Cross Country Recap
- Rose Coats dominated the cross country season for the second straight season as the junior once again qualified for the NCAA Cross Country Championship Meet.
- After earning All-Region honors, Coats placed 111th overall at the championship race with a time of 20 minutes, 0.2 seconds – the fastest time in program history for a Terp on a national championship 6K course. She joined Rosalind Taylor as the only Terps to go to back-to-back NCAA Championships and it was the first time since Alexandra Lucki and Emily Bracher represented Maryland in back-to-back championship races in 2017 and 2018, respectively.
- In addition to Coats' success, Katie Dutko had an outstanding fall campaign highlighted by a pair of Big Ten Freshman of the Week honors making her the first Terp to earn those accolades since joining the Big Ten in 2014. She was also named Maryland's Big Ten Sportsmanship Award honoree.
Last time at the navy invitational
- Last year at the Navy Invitational, five Terps won events and three records were set.
- Armanie Coleman set a new program record in the 200 meters with a time of 23.69 seconds which also set a new Brown Field House record. Chioma Njoku won the weight throw (20.66m) which was also a new facility standard.
- Samantha Payne won the 500 meters (1:13.57) which stands as the fourth-fastest mark in Maryland history.
- Simone Cooper won the shot put in her first collegiate meet with a toss of 13.30 meters, while Katerina Talanova won the 1,000 meters in 2 minutes, 56.45 seconds.
Current terps in the Indoor record books
- Eight Terps are among the program's all-time top 10 on the women's indoor team.
- Armanie Coleman holds the program record for the 60-meter dash (7.43 seconds) and the 200-meter dash (23.69).
- Victoria Teasley ranks second in the 60 meters (7.45 seconds).
- Maya Valmon ranks fifth in the 300 meters (38.86) and eighth in the 400 meters (54.48).
- Rose Coats holds the program record for the 3,000 meters (9:18.23) and the 5,000 meters (15:54.62).
- Maya Mosley is part of the quartet including alums Katie Turk, Emma Pegg, and Emmi Simon who are tied for 10th all-time in the distance medley relay (11:45.76).
- The foursome of Ka'nai Bey, Valmon, alum Kami Joi Hickson, and alum Sam Payne hold the seventh fastest time in the 4x400 relay (3:40.05).
- Jennessa Wolfe ranks 10th in the high jump (5' 8.75").
- Tolu Akinduro ranks third in the triple jump (41' 10.75").
