COLLEGE PARK, MD -- No. 2 Maryland (3-0) travels to No. 5 Princeton (1-0) to Sherrerd Field at Class of 1952 Stadium for a top-five clash on Saturday, Feb. 22 at noon.
This year marks the 100th season of Maryland men's lacrosse. The program has produced 525 All-Americans, 29 Final Fours, and four NCAA National Championships. The Terps have remarkably also finished .500 or better in every season.
100th Season of maryland men's lacrosse
- The Terps boast an all-time record of 896-290-4 (.755), dating back to the first varsity team in 1924 (a team was not fielded in 1944 and 1945 due to World War II). Maryland has finished with a .500 or better record in all previous 99 seasons. The program reached the 800-win milestone with a 12-6 victory on April 12, 2017, at Albany.
- Maryland finished the decade of the 2010s 134-42 for a .761 winning percentage, making it the winningest decade in Terrapin lacrosse history. Nine of those seasons came under the direction of head coach John Tillman, who has posted a 122-38 record and a .763 winning percentage at the helm for Maryland.
- During the decade of the 2000s, Maryland went 111-49 for a .694 win percentage. In the decade of the 1990s, Maryland posted a 95-47 record. The .669 winning percentage matched Maryland's win percentage of the 1980s when the Terps went 83-41 and also compiled a .669 win percentage.
Maryland wins the 2022 National Championship, capping a perfect 18-0 season.
Series history
- Maryland is 36-12-1 against Princeton all-time and currently holds an eight-game winning streak. The two teams have met five times in the last three seasons (2022-24), including twice in the NCAA Tournament.
- Last season, the Terps topped the Tigers in College Park 13-7 on Feb. 24 and 16-8 on May 11 in the NCAA Tournament First Round. Luke Wierman went a combined 40-49 from the faceoff X during those two games.
The Terps won both games against the Tigers in 2024.
Where we've been...
- The Terrapins are coming off their NCAA-best 21st consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance and 29th Final Four, tied with Johns Hopkins for the most by any program. The Terps returned to the NCAA Championship game for the eighth time in 13 tournaments and 17th time in program history. Maryland (11-6) won double-digit games for the 21st year in a row, the longest active streak in NCAA Division I men's lacrosse.

Maryland has wins over No. 18 Richmond, Loyola and No. 2 Syracuse this season, holding all three opponents to just seven goals overall.
- Maryland got off to a strong start in 2025 as the Terps topped No. 18 Richmond 12-7 in their season opener. The Terps shut out the Spiders in the first half, 7-0, marking the first, first-half shutout for the team since 2015. Logan McNaney made 14 saves in cage while Binghamton transfer Matthew Keegan led the way with five points (3g-2a).
- The Terps excelled defensively again at Loyola, coming away with a 8-7 overtime victory. Led by four goals from Eric Spanos, three of which came in the fourth quarter, the Terps erased a three-goal deficit in the final frame. Loyola sent the game to overtime with 2.2 seconds remaining but Shea Keethler gave the Terps possession in overtime to set up a game-winner from Keegan.
- The Terps held Syracuse to just two second-half goals in an 11-7 win over the then-No. 2 Orange. Spanos tallied four points and McNaney made 12 saves in cage.

Princeton, the 2023 & 2024 Ivy League Champion, is 1-0 and coming off a thrilling 11-10 overtime victory at Penn State to start their season.
The Maryland defense excelled against the Spiders, holding them without a goal for the first 31:03 of the game.
Lockdown defense
- The Terps have been excellent defensively in each of its two games in the 2025 campaign, holding its opponents to just seven goals in all three games. It is the first time Maryland has held an opponent to seven goals or less in three consecutive games since the 2017 National Championship Game, a 9-7 win over Ohio State, and the first two games of the 2018 season (Navy & Marist). It is the first time the program has had three such games in one season since March 24-April 4 of 2015, when the Terps held Robert Morris, Michigan and Penn State all under five goals in three straight games.
- Maryland's scoring defense of 7.00 is tied for the seventh-best mark in the nation and is tied for sixth-best among teams who have played multiple games so far.
The Terps have only allowed two first-quarter goals all season.
Faceoff unit success
- With the program's all-time winningest faceoff specialist graduating in Luke Wierman, the Terps have relied heavily on senior Shea Keethler and sophomore Sean Creter so far in 2025.
- The two have been exceptional and are a combined 35/59 (.593) from the faceoff X. As a team, the Terps are 37/62 (.597), the 15th-best mark in the nation and 12th among teams who have played multiple games.
- Keethler is 21/31 (.677) individually, which is sixth-best in the country.

McNaney on the career charts
- With his first save at Loyola on Feb. 8, Logan McNaney officially eclipsed the 600 career save mark, becoming just the fourth Terp ever to do so. McNaney now sits at 621 saves for his career, four saves behind Niko Amato (625).
- McNaney's 6.67 GAA ranks eighth in the country and his .643 save percentage ranks seventh.
