- Maryland kicks off its 30th season in Tempe, Arizona, as head coach Lauren Karn enters her second year leading the program. The Terps open the season Thursday against Arizona State, with the game streaming live on ESPN+.
- In Karn's first year with the program the Terps were able to earn two ranked wins over No. 25 Oregon and No. 22 Penn State. The Terps will play 14 games against seven teams that participated in the 2024 NCAA Tournament.
- Arizona State finished last season with a 20-31 overall record and a 3-21 mark in Pac-12 play. The Sun Devils return seven starters, including key contributors Kelsey Hall and Tanya Windle.
- No. 21 Cal enters the season ranked in the first USA Softball poll. After finishing 37-19 (9-13 Pac-12) last year, the Golden Bears are set to compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference for the first time in program history. Under head coach Chelsea Spencer, now in her fifth season, Cal looks to secure its third consecutive postseason appearance.
- Miami (OH) welcomes first-year head coach Mandy Gardner-Colegate after an impressive 49-9 season that saw the RedHawks reach the NCAA Regionals. Miami (OH) has dominated the MAC, winning every regular-season and tournament championship since 2019. Leading the way is senior Jenna Golembiewski, ranked No. 26 in D1 Softball's D100 Preseason Player Rankings. She ranks fourth in school history with a .348 career batting average and 46 home runs.
- Utah embarks on its first season in the Big 12 under head coach Amy Hogue as the program celebrates its 50th season of softball. The Utes have won conference titles and earned NCAA tournament berths in each of the past two seasons. Utah's key returners include Big 12 Preseason Team selection Kaylah Nelsen and 2024 Pac-12 All-Freshman Team honorees Shonty Passi and Reese Lee.

- Maryland will return two All-Big Ten Second Team players, Sydney Lewis and Mazie MacFarlane.
- MacFarlane, a key addition from Utah State, made an immediate impact after missing the 2023 season due to injury. Starting in 51 of 52 games, she finished second on the team in batting average (.340) and recorded 48 hits, eight RBIs, and a .358 average against Big Ten opponents. Notable performances included a two-home-run, five-RBI game against James Madison, featuring a grand slam.
- Lewis, a sophomore from Prosper, Texas, led Maryland in RBIs (41) and started all 52 games as the designated player. She made significant strides from her freshman year, posting career highs in doubles, RBIs, and home runs, while hitting .295 overall and .358 in conference play.
MacFarlane earned Second Team All-Big Ten honors in her first season in the Big Ten.

- Maryland is excited to welcome Auburn transfer Mariah Penta to College Park. A Chesapeake City native, Penta returns to her home state after spending her freshman season with the Tigers.
- Last season, Penta appeared in 34 games, making 23 starts as a designated player. She finished the season with a .207 batting average, 15 RBIs, four doubles, and three home runs.

- The Terps welcome five freshmen to College Park, including three named to Softball America's Freshman Watch List: Matti Benson, Aubrey Wurst, and Taylor Borovac.
- Benson enters Maryland with an impressive high school career, holding multiple single-season records at Louisville, including batting average (.609, 2021), hits (53, 2021), home runs (12, 2022), on-base percentage (.681, 2023), slugging percentage (1.111, 2023), OPS (1.792, 2023), stolen bases (25, 2023), and walks (26, 2023).
- Wurst was dominant at American Heritage, earning First Team All-Conference and First Team All-County honors as a senior.
- Borovac made a strong impact at Blue Springs, hitting .405 with 32 hits in her senior season.
