COLLEGE PARK, MD – Maryland Gymnastics posted a team score of 195.225, while No. 22 Penn State scored 195.550 on Friday at XFINITY Center. The Terps trailed by .450 entering the final rotation. They bridged the gap but couldn't come away with a win, losing a tightly contested meet.
Maryland had an impressive performance on vault in its first rotation. Freshman Rayna Engelmayer debuted in the vault line-up, recording a score of 9.675 for the Terrapins. The team scored 48.725, and Natalie Martin scored an individual high of 9.850.
Hailey Merchant matched her career high, 9.875, on the uneven bars. Maryland had a team score of 48.975, while the Nittany Lions recorded 49.025 in the event.
Maryland finished the meet on the floor. They scored 48.875, and Taylor Rech and Rhea Leblanc both scored 9.825, tying them for the highest score in the event.
