TAMPA, FL – Maryland baseball was defeated by USF, 15-8, in a rubber match at the USF Baseball Stadium on Sunday afternoon. USF (9-8) came away with the series victory, and Maryland now sits at 10-10 on the season.
Hollis Porter hit a three-run home run in the top of the first to give Maryland an early lead. It was his sixth career home of the season since transferring to the Division I level. However, USF responded with a five-run bottom of the inning. The Terps then tied the game in the top of the second, but USF never surrendered its lead despite Maryland repeatedly chipping away at it.
Elijah Lambros and Chris Hacopian combined to drive in three runs. Lambros went 3-for-4 with two runs scored. He drove in two runs with two separate RBI doubles in the sixth and eighth innings. Hacopian recorded an RBI single in the second.
Brayden Martin scored the final run for the Terps with an RBI single in the eighth to bring the score within three runs. Alex Calarco went 2-for-4 with multiple hits and a run.
Omar Melendez started on the mound, and Andrew Johnson and Logan Koester appeared out of the bullpen. Andrew Koshy also came out of the bullpen, pitching three scoreless innings while surrendering one hit and striking out three batters.
