COLLEGE PARK, MD - The Maryland softball team will head to Oklahoma City, home of the Women's College World Series, for a four-day stretch of Big Ten competition against Michigan and Purdue.

matchup preview
  • Maryland enters the weekend with a 13-12 overall record and a 2-1 Big Ten record after securing a series win over Rutgers to open conference play. The Terps dropped the first game 5-1 but bounced back with wins of 4-1 and 11-7.
  • Most recently, Maryland shut out Colgate 9-0 at home in a five-inning win. Aubrey Wurst pitched four scoreless innings, allowing just one hit. Sam Bean went 2-for-3 with a two-run homer, while Sydney Lewis finished 3-for-3, driving in a run.
  • In their last Big Ten outing, Maryland smashed four home runs, their most in a single game since April 4, 2015, against Indiana. Sydney Lewis launched two, while Mazie MacFarlane and Matti Benson each added one. Bri Godfrey dominated in the circle, throwing five scoreless, hitless innings to secure the series-clinching win.
  • Michigan enters the matchup with a 20-8 overall record and has yet to play a Big Ten game this season. Most recently, the Wolverines competed in the Mizzou Invitational, going 2-1 with wins over Princeton and South Dakota State while falling to Missouri.
  • The Wolverines boast a strong lineup and deep pitching staff. Freshman designated player Lauren Putz leads Michigan in nearly every offensive category, posting a .425 batting average, .838 slugging percentage, and eight home runs. She has recorded three multi-homer games and driven in 29 runs. Sophomore outfielder Ella Stephenson (.352 BA, six home runs) and junior second baseman Indiana Langford (.370 BA) also provide key offensive production. Michigan has hit 15 home runs in its last seven games and 29 total this season.
  • On the mound, senior right-hander Lauren Derkowski ranks second in the Big Ten with three complete-game shutouts and holds a conference-leading four saves. Sophomore Erin Hoehn (11-2) is among the top pitchers in the Big Ten, ranking fourth in wins.
  • Michigan leads the all-time series against Maryland 29-4, including a 10-0 win over the Terps in 2024. Maryland and Michigan have met three times at neutral sites, with Michigan winning all three.
  • Maryland will wrap up the trip with two games against Purdue, which enters the weekend with a 15-12 overall record after dropping three Big Ten games to UCLA last weekend.
  • At the plate, Moriah Polar leads the Boilermakers with a .517 batting average, collecting 45 hits and 21 RBIs this season.
  • On the mound, Madi Elish leads Purdue with six wins (6-3 record) and holds the team's lowest ERA (2.04). She is second on the team in strikeouts with 31.
  • Maryland and Purdue have faced off 10 times in program history, with the series tied at 5-5. Their last meeting in 2024 resulted in a 7-1 Purdue victory. The neutral-site record is also tied at 2-2.
  • Maryland looks to build off its recent success as it faces two tough Big Ten opponents in OKC.
