Each week during the 2024-25 season, a Maryland student-athlete who has shown excellence on and off the playing field will be selected as the Solomon Eye Physicians & Surgeons Terp of the Week.
This week's Terp of the Week is junior Jaxon Smith of the wrestling team.
With a sixth-place finish at 184 pounds at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships, Smith earned All-American status for the first time in his career.
In doing so, Smith became Maryland's first All-American since Youssif Hemida did so in 2019 and is just the 21st wrestler in program history to achieve All-America status.
Smith opened the championships with back-to-back pins in the first and second rounds. A tightly contested loss to eventual champion Cater Starocci in the quarterfinals sent Smith to the consolation bracket.
Smith topped Oklahoma's DJ Parker, 4-2, in the Round of 12, which clinched Smith's All-America honors. He then cruised past Nebraska's Silas Allred to lock up a top-six finish.
The Terps finished with 18.5 team points, tying them for 24th place in the team standings. The 18.5 points are the most for the program since 2014. It is also the first top-25 finish for the team at NCAAs since 2014.
