COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 13 Maryland men's basketball continued its late-season surge as it closed out the 2024-25 regular season with a 74-61 win over Northwestern on Senior Day before a sold-out XFINITY Center crowd on Saturday. The Terps finished 17-2 at home, their most wins in College Park since the 2014-15 season, when they went 18-1. Their 17 wins also rank as the third-most in the nation behind St. John's (18-0) and Missouri (18-2). With the win, Maryland clinched a top-three seed in the Big Ten Tournament. It will clinch the No. 2 seed if Michigan State defeats Michigan at home tomorrow.

The key to victory was a play where Rice dropped his defender and pulled up for a deep 3-pointer that sunk through the bottom of the net at the 8:33 mark of the second half. The shot, giving Maryland a 53-46 advantage, tied for either team's largest lead to that point (seven points). The Terps went on to outscore the Wildcats 24-15 for the remainder of the game.
Northwestern (16-15, 7-13) was led by Nick Martinelli's 28 points and seven rebounds. The Terps avenged their loss on the road to the Wildcats on Jan. 16, where Martinelli hit the game winner at the buzzer in overtime.

So I think it was really special for him to get that moment."
