Evanston, IL – Maryland finished the 2025 Big Ten Championships with 54.0 team points, good for an eighth-place finish, the highest since joining the conference.
The Terps needed just one day to best its previous-best team score of 39.0 and they added to that total on Sunday thanks to wins from Jaxon Smith, Braxton Brown, Kal Miller and Seth Nevills. Those four plus Ethen Miller and Branson John all earned top-eight finishes and qualified for the 2025 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia, marking the highest total in both categories for the Terps since joining the Big Ten.
On Saturday, Maryland also pushed all six guys into the quarterfinals, the most for the program at Big Tens.
Smith defeated third-seeded Allred in the consolation semifinals and finished with a fourth-place finish. After dropping a close match to Penn State's Braeden Davis at the beginning of the day, Brown rebounded with a clutch takedown in sudden victory to defeat the 2024 Big Ten Champion Dylan Shawver at 133 pounds. Brown finished fifth, his best career finish.
Ethen Miller and Branson John both finished in sixth place. John, a true freshman, was the lone double-digit seed to make it to the placement matches in Session IV.
In the early session, Kal Miller defeated Michigan's Dylan Gilcher in the seventh-place match to secure his third win over Gilcher in as many tries this season. Miller's seventh-place finish is his first time making the podium in his career. Heavyweight Seth Nevills defeated Michigan State's Max Vanadia, 4-0, to finish in seventh place, the best finish of his career.
Dario Lemus and Chase Mielnik each picked up a victory on Day One to help Maryland earn team points.
Brown, Kal Miller, Ethen Miller, John, Smith and Nevills will represent the Terps at the 2025 NCAA Championships in Philadelphia on March 20-22. The six NCAA qualifiers are the program's most since the 2011-12 season when the Terps had seven.
