COLLEGE PARK, MD – After posting a 24-7 overall record and a 14-6 mark in league play, Maryland earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming TIAA Big Ten Men's Basketball Tournament hosted by Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis. The Terps will open postseason play on Friday, March 14 in the quarterfinals with a 6:30 PM tip on BTN.
The Terps will face the winner of Thursday's second round match-up between the No. 7 seed team and the winner of the first round game against the No. 15 and No. 10 seeds. The tournament's first round will open on Wednesday, March 12.
Maryland earned the No. 2 seed for the second time since joining the Big Ten in 2014-15 – the last time the Terps were the No. 2 seed and the highest seed as league members. In the 2015 tournament, Maryland defeated sixth-seeded Indiana before falling in the semifinals to No. 3 seed Michigan State.
Overall, Maryland is 2-3 in the quarterfinal stage. The Terps have reached the semifinals twice during their Big Ten tenure – in 2015 and 2016.
The Terps closed out the regular season as one of the hottest teams in the country winning seven of their last eight games and 11 of their last 13. Maryland also became road warriors going 5-1 in their last six road games of the regular season.
Maryland enters postseason play ranked No. 10 in the NCAA Net, No. 12 in the Kenpom.com ratings, and No. 13 in the Torvik rankings. The Terps NCAA resume is highlighted by seven Quad 1 victories and four wins against AP Top 25 teams this season – including last week's 71-65 win at No. 17 Michigan.
