No. 7 Terps Travel To Rutgers For Wednesday Matchup

COLLEGE PARK, MD -- Maryland will travel to Piscataway, New Jersey for a Wednesday matchup against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The Terps and Scarlet Knights will square off at 6 p.m., in SHI Stadium on Big Ten Network, with Jason Knapp and former Maryland legend Taylor Cummings on the call.

 
Where We've Been
  • The Terps enter Wednesday's midweek matchup with a 10-4 overall record and a 5-1 mark in Big Ten play. This season, Maryland has secured ranked wins over No. 18 USC, No. 13 James Madison, and No. 11 Michigan. Junior Kori Edmondson leads the offense with 46 points and 37 goals, while graduate student Chrissy Thomas leads the team in assists with 29. Defensively, the Terps are anchored by captains Kennedy Major and Neve O'Ferrall
  • Maryland defeated Ohio State, 8-5, on Senior Day on Sunday. The Terps improved to 5-1 in Big Ten play while holding the Buckeyes to a season-low scoring output.
  • Maryland's defense was anchored by JJ Suriano, who made three saves, and Caroline Smith, who added three saves in the contest. The Terps limited the Buckeyes to just 11 shots on goal. Maryland outshot Ohio State 29-16 overall in the contest. Maddy Sterling (two), Sophie HalusKennedy Major and Fallon George all recorded caused turnovers.

Scouting the scarlet Knights
  • Alexa Corbin leads the charge for the Rutgers offense, while Lilly Dixon has been the Scarlet Knights' top playmaker, recording 32 assists—third-most in the Big Ten and 20th nationally.
  • In goal, graduate goalkeeper Lexie Coldiron has been outstanding in her debut season at Rutgers. She leads the nation with 160 saves and paces the Big Ten with 10.67 saves per game. Coldiron owns a 10.20 goals-against average and a .508 save percentage. Her stellar play has earned her national and Big Ten Defensive Player of the Week honors, a spot on the IL Women Midseason All-America team, and a place on the Tewaaraton Award Watch List.
  • This will be the 29th all-time meeting between Maryland and Rutgers. The Terps hold a commanding 26–2 lead in the series, which dates back to 1979 when Maryland claimed an 11–5 win in the inaugural matchup.

Thomas and Edmondson Moving Up The Charts
  • With three assists in the 2025 season opener, Chrissy Thomas became just the 66th player in Maryland women's lacrosse history to reach the 100-point mark for her career. Thomas currently has 138 points, which ranks her 51st on the all-time list.
  • Kori Edmondson recorded her 100th career goal against No. 3 Northwestern. Edmondson now ranks tied for 53rd all-time on Maryland's career point list with 131 career points.

  • On February 14, the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) announced the 2025 IWLCA Hall of Fame, which included Maryland head coach Cathy Reese.
  • Reese has guided Maryland to five national championships (2010, 2014, 2015, 2017, 2019), 11 Final Fours, and 20 regular-season and tournament championships across the ACC and Big Ten. She is recognized as a four-time IWLCA National Coach of the Year (2010, 2014, 2015, 2019) and a 12-time Conference Coach of the Year.
  • Reese joins former Maryland head coaches Cindy Timchal (Class of 2017) and Suzanne Tyler (Class of 2018) in the IWLCA Hall of Fame.
