No. 7 Terps Earn 800th Program Win, Beat No. 8 Blue Jays In Regular Season Finale

COLLEGE PARK, MD – No. 7 Maryland women's lacrosse defeated No. 8 Johns Hopkins, 13-11, in its regular season finale at Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on Saturday. This was Maryland's 800th program win, the most by any women's college lacrosse program. The Terps improved to 12-4 overall and 7-1 in Big Ten play, winning five of their last six games. It was the team's fourth win over a ranked team this season. 

Maryland also clinched the No. 2 seed in the Big Ten Tournament and earned a first-round bye. With the Terps hosting the tournament at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex, they will play in the semifinals on Friday, April 25. The game will be televised on the Big Ten Network. 

After an early deficit, Maryland's offense powered past Johns Hopkins with a 7-1 scoring run that spanned the first and second quarters. The Terps (11-5, 5-3 Big Ten) outshot the Blue Jays 32-26 on their way to a double-digit goal tally.  
 
The Terps offense was keyed by Jordyn Lipkin, who had a hat trick before the end of the first quarter. It was her fifth hat trick of the season and ninth of her career. Lipkin went on to total
four goals in the game. 
 
Kori Edmondson also delivered a hat-trick, her 10th of the season and 27th of her career. She leads the Terps with
43 goals on the season. This is the junior's single-season career-high for goals, surpassing her 41 goals scored as a freshman in 2023. 

Lauren LaPointe (two goals and two assists), Chrissy Thomas (two goals and one assist) and Devin Livingston (two goals) also had multi-point games. Emma Abazia tallied one assist in the contest.
 
Sophomore goalie JJ Suriano made
nine saves between the pipes. Kayla Gilmore led the defense with three caused turnovers. Neve O'Ferrall and Edmondson also caused turnovers for the Terps. 

Edmondson (four wins) led the team from the draw circle. As a team, the Terps won 10-of-27 draw controls. 

This was the 27th all-time meeting between Maryland and Johns Hopkins. The Terps own a perfect 27-0 record in the series, which began in 1979. 
 

Breaking Down The Action
  • Jordyn Lipkin had a hat trick to put the Terps on the board before Lauren LaPointe and Kori Edmondson both added scores in the first quarter. Maryland headed into the second with a 5-3 lead over John Hopkins. 
  • Kori Edmondson opened the second quarter with a free-position strike, followed by a Devin Livingston free-position goal midway through the period. The Blue Jays put two through on free-position shots, but Lipkin netted her fourth score to quash John Hopkins' run. 
  • Edmondson and Livngtson both scored to put the Terps's goal total in the double digits in the third quarter. Maryland held on to their advantage, despite two Johns Hopkins' scores. 
  • Chrissy Thomas scored twice in the fourth quarter, countering two Hopkins scores. LaPointe also notched her second score of the day with under five minutes remaining in the game.

  • Jordyn Lipkin (four goals) recorded the 23rd multi-point game of her career. It was her 21st with multiple goals.
  • Kori Edmondson (three goals) recorded multiple points for the 39th time in her career. She has scored multiple goals 37 times.
  • Lauren LaPointe (two goals & two assists) notched the seventh multi-point game of her career. It was her sixth career game with multiple goals. 
  • Chrissy Thomas (two goals & one assist) had the 36th multi-point game of her career. 
  • Devin Livingston (two goals) recorded her sixth career multi-point game. It was her fourth career game with multiple goals.

  • Maryland is 179-12 at home under head coach Cathy Reese. It has eight undefeated home campaigns in the last 11 seasons (2013-19 and 2021).
