Porter, Hill Homers Lift Terps Over Nebraska, 12-5

COLLEGE PARK, MD – Hollis Porter's two-run home run and Aden Hill's solo home run in the bottom of the seventh led Maryland baseball to a 12-5 win over Nebraska in game one of its series at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium on Friday evening. The Terps improved to 20-23, 6-13 Big Ten. 

The Terps entered the inning holding onto a 6-5 advantage over the Huskers (19-23, 7-12 Big Ten). However, homers by Porter and Hill after Eddie Hacopian scored on a passed ball gave Maryland a commanding 10-5 lead. It also tacked on a final run in the inning, making it a five-spot, on a Brayden Martin (2-for-5) RBI single. 
  Porter went 4-for-5 with a team-leading three RBIs and two runs. He also recorded an RBI single in the third. His home run was his 15th of the season. Hill finished with two RBIs, also recording a sacrifice fly in the second. He hit his eighth home run of the year and 14th of his career, as he hit six last season at VCU.   
  Kyle McCoy improved to 4-2 on the mound. He pitched six innings, surrendering four runs on seven hits. He struck out one batter and walked two. Logan Hastings pitched the final three innings, allowing one run on two hits. The freshman earned his first career save.  

Jacob Orr and Liam Willson also hit home runs in the contest. Orr's gave the Terps a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third. It was a solo home run to left field on the first pitch of his at-bat. It was his 12th career home run and sixth of the season. Five of his home runs have occurred in his last nine games, and he also has back-to-back games with a homer. 

Willson's was also a solo home run. He hit his to center field in the fourth to restore a two-run lead, 6-4. It was the third of his career and first as a Terp. The Wake Forest transfer went 2-for-3, also recording an RBI single. 

Elijah Lambros (2-for-5) pitched in with two RBIs, recording a RBI double and single. He also came around to score. 

Breaking Down The Action
  • Nebraska took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a solo home run to left field. 
  • The Huskers tacked on two more runs to lead 3-0 in the second with a pair of RBI singles. 
  • The Terps tied the game at 3-3 in the bottom of the second. Elijah Lambros hit an RBI double, Liam Willson poked a RBI single and Aden Hill recorded a sacrifice fly. 
  • Kyle McCoy struck out his first batter to end the top of the third inning. 
  • Jacob Orr gave the Terps a 4-3 lead with a solo homer to left field in the bottom of the inning. Hollis Porter then hit an RBI single to bring the lead to 5-3. 
  • Nebraska got a run back on an RBI single in the fourth and trailed 5-4. 
  • Willson hit a solo home run in the fourth to give the Terps a 6-4 lead. 
  • The Huskers trailed 6-5 in the seventh after hitting an RBI double. 
  • The Terps scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to lead 11-5. Porter hit a two-run homer and Hill added a solo shot, along with a single by Brayden Martin.  
Eddie In The Record Books
  • Eddie Hacopian scored a run, giving him 153 for his career. He has the seventh-most runs in program history. Chris Canann (1991-94) and Larry Long (1997-00) are tied for fifth, each with 158 career runs.
